The league is saying it officially now: http://profootballta...never-happened/

My question is, unlike most other situations like this, this literally would have ended the game on the spot. There's nothing to replay, or other outcomes to change. So why can't they just declare the Ravens the winner in this case?

Because this is sports and you don't do shit like that.

That being said, a play like that should be able to be replayed.  That's what I hate about replay...its too limited.  Everything should be replayed.

Also, a lot of the Ravens players were standing around a little bit.  They shouldn't have done that but they might have realized they didn't get set and the game was over...fortunately, Doom played through the whistle.  Undfortunately, he was the only one and made the mistake.

Its bullshit but its another example of this just not being the Ravens year.  Stuff like this is happening every single week.  Its insane,

Maybe this is apropos of nothing, but I lived in San Antonio in 1996-97. That season seemed to go similarly for the Spurs as this season has for the Ravens....just kept getting absurdly worse at every turn for a team that was used to being a perennial playoff team. Now, Spurs fans look back on that as the most important season in franchise history. Maybe we'll all be thinking something along those lines in 2025.

Dan Patrick posed the same question on his show after the Miami/Duke debacle.

I completely agree. If the play ends the game, get it right.

It's absurd that a billion dollar organization can continue to be this inept.

Otoh, that loss may help us get a higher pick. So, it's tough to be too upset.

I don't care only because of our poor season and desire for a higher draft pick. If we were in the playoff hunt, I'd be livid.

I seriously don't get why they can't review certain penalties.  I just don't get the whole judgment call thing.

The ref is the chief official.  If, in his judgment on review, it's not a penalty, then that should be that.

This league is awful.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

If New England lost their first game this way, the league would act. There, I said it.

It's beneficial that this happened. It helps draft position.

While true, it still annoys me because if this game did have any playoff implications it would have been the same thing.
