Yea..for all the talk of the offense, the guy we all feel we can rely on is Smith and he dropped an easy pass.

That's pretty terrible.

I honestly thought Flacco was just trying to throw the ball away on that one to Smith in the corner.

That one too honestly. Smith was pretty damn open all the way. Guy got over and either nipped the ball or got a hand in Smith's view. Should have caught it but that's a throw that Joe could have been better on too.

Forget Kubiaks schemes and playcalling. What we might miss most is his footwork and drills that kept Joe sharp and fundamentally correct.

@billbarnwell: Looking back at the Ravens play again and not so sure it isn’t PI. Bruton is running with Gillmore, has his arm barred for final five years.

Such a terrible game by the Ravens. Yeah, you kept Manning out of the end zone. But you only moved the ball when they went prevent at the end. And you couldn't get a stop for almost the whole fourth quarter. Pretty awful by game by everyone.

It's an easy ball to catch...unfortunately, that's the case for both sides.

Still...that was face guarding, which I thought was PI but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

If Gilmore jumps back into the defender they have to call it. But by not making contact with the defender they give the ref the opportunity to swallow the whistle

I really wish Joe would stop putting so much air under the ball there. Just a little more on a line and the guy doesnt get over to make a play on the ball.

Mike Pereira
btw, that is not DPI in Denver.Defender is not playing the ball but contact is not until the ball arrives.

Yup. That's what Torrey did so well.If he saw the defender wasn't looking he would jump back into him and force the contact and PI.

@CoachBillick: Wow! Sometimes the D just makes a play...that was a perfect touch pass by Flacco but an even better pick by Stewart.

Would love to know how often we went from gun vs under center today passing. Really grew to love throwing from under center last year. From the gun Joe's mechanics can get sloppy. He backs up and gives the pass edge rushes more of an angle.

They held them 214 total yards and no offensive TDs, 2 FGs that were over 55 yards long and you think they were terrible? The defense dominated the game except that one drive and while that one drive was terrible, you put that more on the offense because of their lack of moving the ball and keeping the defense on the field too much.

Yea, I just saw that....but he's not mentioning his hands all over him, arm bar or whatever you want to call. But I'm not sure how you can not be looking at the ball, make contact(hold or whatever word you want to use) and not call that but I do remember a play(Dallas game maybe?) where someone was face guarded and they didn't call it and there was a big controversy about it.

I worried it was an Achilles after seeing the replay. Is that what it is? Huge loss.

It looks like the same old story. They dont get it done when it counts. Manning had an unheard of 12 minute drive. That can't happen. When they score 28, the defense allows 35. When we score 13, the D allows 14. Offense needed to score more. Defense needed to get a stop much earlier in the 4th. Pretty terrible game by everyone.

I just don't see a rational argument that the defense was horrible.

ST was also pretty good except that had punt.

So 2/3 of the units played very well.

Honestly don't hate how that game played out, until I read that Suggs is out for the season with an achilles.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Can I say the defense was horrible when it counted the most?

Which over the years is when this defense is its worst.

I mean, it counted the entire game.

And yes, they were terrible for the drive although they still held them to 3 and we still had 2 plays in the end zone to win, so it's not like the time they ate up stopped us from winning. Obviously, we may have made more chances and could have just kicked a FG to tie but still, we should have won and literally had it in the hands of our best offensive playmaker and he dropped it.

One note on the game thread... thought we had some good discussions today.

Obviously not the result we wanted, but thanks to all who joined.
