Is it just me or if they are going to use Ichiro's numbers from Japan then shouldn't they use Cobb's numbers from minor leagues and Roses?  If we use them then he has 165 more hits to go to pass Cobb or am I just being a hater?

<p>I am pretty sure Shack is thinking of PBR.

Being a hater.

It's not like he's passing these guys in MLB hits. He has an unusual circumstance that kept him out of MLB when he could have been racking up tons of hits like he was in Japan. I don't think those hits in Japan should be weighted equally, but I also don't think that's what's going on.

Sure, if you are going to count all professional hits...  Cobb and Rose's MiL career hits should be added to their professional totals. But saying Ichiro has tied Cobb with 4,191 professional hits isn't official. Just a reminder of how  productive he has been for a long time.

(Will say Japan is often called the equivalent of AAAA, so his numbers there are probably more impressive than Cobb's and Rose's MiL numbers.)

The Japanese leagues are top-level, extremely competitive leagues. They may not be MLB equivalent for player evaluation purposes, but that doesn't mean they are just like the hits Cobb had in Augusta, GA, or Rose in Geneva, NY. If he gets another 60-odd hits I'd have no problem calling him the "world-record" holder, even if Rose is still the "Hit King".

Also, just as an aside that I found amusing, if you go on Cobb's BBRef page, he has official Negro League stats

What should never be forgot with Ichiro, is his first ML season at Age 27...  ROY, MVP, 242 hits...

The fact that he's knocking on the door for 3k MLB hits despite not playing a game in MLB until his age 27 season is crazy.
