Commentary from Reddit:

Yay! This is my time to shine. I researched this a few years ago.

Today was actually the 70th day in which every existing team played at least one game and the home team won all of them. Of course, there used to only be sixteen teams, so a full schedule would only see eight games.

The last time every home team won a full-schedule day was June 18, 1963. There were twenty teams at the time, and the home team won all 10 games. Until tonight, this was the only instance in the expansion era.

There were 12 games played on May 23, 1914, all won by the home team. There were, of course, three leagues in operation that season, all with eight teams.

September 3, 1894 was Labor Day, and the custom was for scheduled doubleheaders league-wide. Twelve teams combined for 11 games (the second part of one of the doubleheaders was presumably rained out or cancelled by other means), and the home team won them all. There were a handful of other instances in which there was a full slate of games plus a doubleheader or two, all won by the home team.

The visiting team has won every game in a full-schedule day only 14 times, the last of which was September 28, 1957.

I've been waiting for this to happen for a long time. I'm glad someone noticed (I might not have, at least not until I updated my databases which I only do once or twice a week), and I'm glad that I actually attended one of these games (Twins walk-off). Awesome day.

¡Hasta la vista, pelota!
