Didn't really see an easy fit into an existing topic, but BA had a good roll up of this year and the last 4 years draft spending.

2015: Orioles overspent their draft pool by $16,300 and paid a penalty of $12,255.  I didn't check, but I believe this is the first time the Orioles went over their draft pool.

14 teams over spent their draft pool this year ranging from the Astros (575,800) to the Os.

LAST 4 YEARS: the Orioles have spent 24,083,000 in the draft since 2012 which ranks 27th in MLB.

The Astros (obviously) have spent the most at 47,534,700 to the Angels low of 16,824,300.

Both the Average and Median are right around 29M.

Orioles spending the last 4 years has been limited some by trading 2 CompBal picks, losing picks for Cruz and Jiminez and not signing Hughes this year.  Those 5 picks would likely have pushed them above the 29M mark.

Pretty big clump between 26M (Giants, 21st) and 30M (Reds, 10th).

Thought maybe I'd followup this post from last year with the 2016 draft numbers ($$) in.

Baseball America rollup 2016 draft spending

Orioles were T9th in spending differential and spent exactly their pool (+/- $0).  Separation in differential from top to bottom was only 1.2M

What I found interesting in the final tally is how much they spent after the 10 round.  I count 14 guys they gave from 62k-107k (100k is the limit without impacting your pool) and without going back and looking at all of the recent drafts, I'm sure that an Oriole record at least in terms of numbers (Hobgood draft they tried to leverage early savings after 10....I'd have to go look at the total, they had more 200+k guys that year I think).

This year only 2 guys in the top10 rounds (across MLB) didn't sign and that's a record few.  Orioles signed all 11 guys in the first 10 rounds.

We had some friendly discussion on Nolan Jones....he signed for 2.25M.

Dietz (comp for 2015 Hughes) was the biggest over-slot sign for 1.3M at #69.
