George Mason scores in the bottom of the 9th, and Maryland’s season has ended.

Bummer. But they weren’t beating wake twice anyway

After six seasons at the helm in College Park, Rob Vaughn is leaving to become the head coach at Alabama. He was a top candidate for a number of high profile jobs after last season, but elected to stay at Maryland for one more year. Massive loss for the program.

It's likely that longtime assistant and former Maryland outfielder Matt Swope is promoted to take Vaughn's place.

Well, that didn’t take long. Swope has been officially announced as Maryland’s new head coach.

In all likelihood, IF Matt Shaw will become Maryland's first first-round MLB Draft selection since 2007 on Sunday and their sixth all-time.

With the 13th pick in the MLB Draft, Shaw has been selected by the Chicago Cubs. He becomes Maryland’s highest draft selection ever.

Jason Savacool has been selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round.

EDIT: Nick Lorusso has been selected by the New York Mets in the ninth round.

Apparently the investigation into Northwestern football also extended into the baseball program, which found head coach Jim Foster engaged in "abusive" and "bullying" behavior. With the news Fitzgerald has been fired, I'd wager Foster and maybe the AD will be following him out the door.

Maryland’s Nigel Belgrave has been selected by the Miami Marlins in the fifteenth round.

EDIT: Nick Dean has been selected by the Chicago Cubs in the nineteenth round.

Tommy Kane has been selected by the San Francisco Giants in the nineteenth round.

Oregon State announced today that rather than join the West Coast Conference as an affiliate in baseball, which they have done for all their other non-football sports, they will play as an independent under the Pac-12 banner. They won't be eligible for the postseason via conference champion, but can make it as an at large. Since they have won 3 CWS titles since 2006, with several other appearances, and are ranked #7 in preseason polls, they can probably pull it off for a couple years and schedule quality opponents.

Washington State has not announced what they will do yet, but the option to play in the WCC is available to them.

Maryland has enjoyed a hot start to their season, currently 18-6 (2-1) on the year led by a stellar crop of freshmen. They were back to their "Cardiac Terps" ways over the weekend, kicking off conference play with two walk-off wins against Michigan State.

Maryland has struggled significantly during the last few weeks, and currently sit at 5-7 in conference play (23-14 overall). As is often the case with a young team, the majority of their losses have come on the road. They currently sit at #52 in the RPI rankings, and are tied for 8th in the conference (which is the cut-off point for the Big Ten Tournament). If they continue to slide, they'll miss the postseason entirely.

Maryland has rebounded nicely, winning their last three weekend series and jumping all the way up to #35 in RPI. Currently sit at 7th place in the conference.

As quickly as they rebounded, they fell. After losing to Penn State today, they’ll officially miss the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2018. A disappointing season for Matt Swope in his first year at the helm.

Birmingham Southern got knocked out of the D-III World Series today on a walk-off HR against Wisc-Whitewater. Tough ending to a great run for the Panthers who, for the past two days, have represented a school that technically no longer exists. Birmingham Southern College officially closed its doors forever on Friday.
