After a bye week, the Terps are back in action against #12 Michigan State. I'll have a denser preview that I will post within this thread on Thursday afternoon.

This game is going to be COLD. Early weather forecasts have a high of 39 during the day, but temperatures should be in the 20s by the time kickoff rolls around.

Michigan State:

271.2 passing yards per game (35th in country)

246.3 rushing yards per game (19th in country)

44.6 points scored per game (6th in country)

23.4 points allowed per game (42nd in country)

Maryland:

228.0 passing yards per game (69th in country)

125.7 rushing yards per game (106th in country)

30.3 points scored per game (63rd in country)

28.1 points allowed per game (79th in country)

Combined records of the teams the Terps have played so far is 48-37.

Combined records of the teams the Spartans have played so far is 50-35.

Are we playing a ranked team. That means a drubbing is on the way. If Edsall has this team within 10 entering the 4th quarter that's like a win for him.

Always about the lines.  MSU's advantages in the trenches figure to make it a long night. Plus Connor Cook is talented.

Will say that with an extra week to prepare, and MSU coming off their big game vs. OSU... you would like to see MD find a way to be competitive.  Tough to see that happening though...  maybe if they can get some turnovers / defensive scores.

Three touchdown loss at the minimum. Covering 10.5 would probably be the greatest achievement of Edsall's tenure.

Maybe he'll suggest another trophy.

The spread is only 10.5? Where do I bet the farm on Sparty?

Same place you bet the farm on Penn State?

In this case, though, I actually agree with everyone.  Seems like too low of a spread.  Maybe the cold weather will slow Sparty down.  But probably not.

I wasnt totally shocked they beat Penn St. Its an upset but Penn st. Hasn't played well. IIRC they lost to badly to Northwestern and even Michigan beat them. Barely beat Indiana. Though they did take Ohio State to OT.

Mich. St. On the other hand is pretty damn good. Comparable to Wisconsin how well they run the ball. At least 20 points they win by.

That extra week of preparation, and rest should count for something though. MSU didn't think about MD at all until yesterday. MD has been able to spend another week looking at MSU.

That doesn't figure to be enough to tilt things to MD's direction (still going to lose 1x1 battles on both lines)... but it should help make the game more competitive. If it doesn't, I think that would be disappointing.

You've been overwhelmed early in the games vs. OSU, and Wisconsin.  That's what you are trying to avoid here. Would be nice if you could get a quick lead, have some early positives. Possession by possession, you are trying to stay in the game.

To be fair though.. there might not be scheming possible, that allows you to be competitive. If both lines are overwhelmed... there is not a lot you can do.

Of course not having Diggs is another thing which limits you.

Long and Leak should see plenty of passes.  Opportunity there for Veii, Winfree, and Etta-Tawo as well.
I'd also like to see more usage of the TE's these next few weeks.

If the O-line is going to be overwhelmed trying to block MSU's D-line... what would you rather see:

1) Max protect.. 2 TE's, FB... or JUMBO package with an extra Tackle...

2) Spread the field, trying to pull defenders from the box...

Spread 'em thin and pray that we can win some one-on-one matchups every once in a while.

Stefon Diggs will miss the final 3 games of the season with a lacerated kidney. Rumors from last week were true.

Capable of being back for a Bowl game?

The possibility is there. They're not ruling it out just yet, which is a good sign.

Is it my memory, or has it been a very long time since they won one of these "blackout" games?

That looks a lot like the "Black Ops" helmet. But they normally wear those uniforms on Senior Day. We'll see.

Did want to point out that, as expected, Jacquille Veii will start in Stefon Diggs' place at slot receiver. Daniel Adams and DeAndre Lane will be co-backups. Should stay that way through the rest of the year. Missing Levern Jacobs is huge right now.

William Likely will take over as the kickoff returner, with Deon Long serving as his backup. The new backup at punt returner is DeAndre Lane.

The Terps will wear their Black Ops uniforms this Saturday, just an updated version of them.
