I can only hope that this is an audition to see if Povich can replace Rogers in the rotation.

I don't think it is. He'll be up for today only then optioned. Wouldn't be surprised to see them option Baker for Povich, have him start the game, IL Kimbrel after the game and use that to get Baker back. Then option Povich and call up whomever else they need.

Hyde stated the purpose was to give all the starters an extra day off. Wouldn't surprise me to see them go to a 6 man rotation the rest of the way. Need to try something because its pretty bad right now, including Burnes. His last 3 starts haven't been very good. I guess the TB start was ok but 3 runs in 6 innings is not Burnes quality pitching at all.

Not expecting a great game from Povich. Boston is still a solid offense with plenty of patience.

A 6-man rotation is tough, because it means a 7-man bullpen, which is tough to begin with, but even tougher if 2 of the 7 relievers are Kimbrel and Soto. Maybe a 6-man rotation starting September 1?

Agree. Don't think they're going to a six man right. This is just a one-off start to get everyone an extra day during a stretch with very few off days. Usually I'd hate this, but see the logic now especially since Burnes has struggled lately. I do think this rest for the starters comes at the risk of taxing the pen if Povich gets bombed, but I imagine they have a clever roster management plan to get Povich up for the day and then replace him with a BP arm.

I agree a 6 man rotation is tough but also hardly think a one time one extra day rest for a starter has any lasting affect either.

Yeah why I was really surprised to see the O/U at 9.5. That's just average runs scored and 2 pretty bad starters going and bullpen all got worked last night
