How he compares with some of the other main relievers this year

Thanks for putting that together. Clearly Elias and company think they can improve him because on the surface he's just another guy like we have too many of.

His hard-hit and exit velo being that good with barrel% that bad is pretty odd, they're not perfectly correlated but barrels are measured by contact with a particular exit velo and launch angle which would help explain why the GB% isn't particularly good either

I noticed that too, also feels weird to have a high K rate but be relatively poor at getting whiffs and chases.

Also if he allows a lot of FB maybe the wall helps.

He has the upside to be our best reliever and an option for next year to pair with a returning Bautista. No sure thing but to get that for Hays is an easy yes.

Every dominant bullpen needs power arms and it's something ours is surely lacking.

Like the Ks and the WHIP despite the high ERA.

We've been pretty good and reclaiming BP arms so maybe they can work some magic with him.

As a RH I would think Walltimore will not be as impactful for him.

The decent K #s and relatively low BB at least makes him someone you'd ideally turn to in extras when Kimbrel blows another save.

I didn't check it, but someone somewhere else (twitter or reddit?) said 4 of his 6 HR allowed this year wouldn't have been out in Baltimore.

Posted this in the other thread, but I have seen a good number of Phillies fans on X not happy he was traded in this deal. Again, for what it’s worth, but Philly fans generally are a “don’t let the door hit ya” group when they are done with a player so not liking him being traded seems good for the O’s. We’ll see.

So looks like 3 of the 6 would've been out at OPACY, and 1 might've been off the wall for at least a double.

When I first heard the name I thought maybe he was British.

He made a good first impression. Give him the closer's role.

Picked a bad time to start giving up HRs.

There’s a reason he had an ERA north of four when we went out and made the huge splash our pen needed at the deadline. He has good runs in him, but he’s mid. Relative to the rest of our pen, mid has felt pretty great of late though.

Philly traded him for a reason.
