Following their loss to Michigan State over the weekend, Maryland returns home for a game against Rutgers on Tuesday night. The Scarlet Knights currently hold a record of 11-10 (3-7), and have lost three of their last four games. As is typical of Steve Pikiell's teams they play stifling defense, but have struggled mightily on the offensive end of the court this year. In fact, they have the conference's best defense this season while also holding the worst offense.
As a team, Rutgers is shooting 38% from the field and 28% from beyond the arc. Offensively, they're led by a frontcourt of upperclassmen Aundre Hyatt and Clifford Omoruyi. Both average double-digit scoring and combine for 14 rebounds per game. Given both teams' defensive dominance and offensive ineptitude, this could be an extremely ugly and frustrating game to watch.
Since joining the Big Ten, Maryland is 10-4 against Rutgers. However, they're just 3-4 over their last seven meetings.
