This feels like a big game. A lot of little things went against the Orioles last night. Bounce back tonight.

Baumann down, Voth up.

Baumann down, Voth up.
That surprises me some. Baumann has been good for most of the year, but has hit a rough patch. I would not be surprised to see Voth on a short rope.

The player development and analytical approach to coaching is so strong here now that I'm never overly discouraged when someone goes to AAA. Baumann made 33 appearances across AAA and MLB last season, 13 of which were in relief. This season, he's still 33 innings shy of what he pitched last year, but he's made 56 appearances so far, all in relief. It's a different ask, a different routine. Not surprised to see him hit a bit of a rough patch. Not that he's great to begin with - his FIP/xFIP are 4.23/4.73 and he's got a 9% barrel rate against. Not what you need from a reliever.
But he's still shown there's something to work with. They must have some adjustments in mind, and probably also want to give him a breather and see if that helps. I still think there's a useful reliever in there, we may not see it this year.

I see people trashing him in the threads, but Baumann has entered in a lot of game on the line situations and more than held his own.
Wins don't mean a lot to some, but Baumann held down the fort enough to get 9. On a team that plays many close games, that means something to me.

Baumann's single biggest issue to me is his tendency to grove 95mph fast balls. Not enough velocity to just blow buy guys so when he does this he gets hit hard. But he clearly has the goods just needs a break.

I think this move is about availability. More then a pure demotion of Baumann.
Agreed, a team with a 7 man BP in today's game needs a long man. I guess that is Voth.

I won't say this is a must game but the team really needs to get it together tonight and they need to figure out a way to score more than 3 runs against Gausman. On paper, it's all Toronto but they still have to play the game.

Yeah, makes sense. I’d give home some rest though. He was struggling.

Baumann's allowed an .849 OPS the past 28 days, a 1.106 OPS the past 14 days, and a 1.255 OPS the past 7 days.
As effective as he once may have been this year, he's earned this demotion to get either rested or righted.

Ever any updates on Flaherty?
Rotoworld:
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Jack Flaherty was dealing with “general soreness” which led to the decision to scratch him from Wednesday’s start against the Blue Jays.
Hyde added that Flaherty’s typical post-start soreness didn’t dissipate this time following his previous outing and the club didn’t want to take any chances. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at this juncture and it’s possible Flaherty will be ready to take the ball at some point later this week.

I gather that to mean that Flaherty would've been destroyed tonight had he pitched at 70-75%.
