Actually I thought it was great news haha.

The only ones who really matter from the piece are Means and Seth Johnson.  We hadn't received any update at all on Johnson before this piece as far as I know.  The fact that he's about ready to pitch in the FCL is good news.  He'll be one of our top SP prospects depending upon his recovery.

I wonder what the real situation is with Coulombe. Its arm related so Im concerned he could be out the rest of the year

True and I guess its the half full half empty thing.

Half full - Means threw 45 pitches

Half empty - didn't even make it past 2 innings

I get he needs to ramp up his pitch count. And that's great. But we need him to be able to get guys out if he's going to help next month. Not just throw pitches.

Means hasn't pitched in a year and a half.  I think pitch count is most important right now.  Hopefully we see the results tick up the next couple of outings.

If we're depending on Means to put us over the top, we're in trouble.

I wouldn't say we're depending on him but I can see him contributing down the stretch. He's well beyond the timeline for his TJ recovery so if he can get ramped up he might have a shot to join the rotation in a month or so. Put him in the bullpen in a couple of weeks and take it from there.

The bullpen heeds help badly. The rotation needs help but not as much.

Since the two moves the FO made before the deadline were for Fuji and Flaherty they must have been figuring that help was coming from the farm or injury return. Just trying to point out that that article doesn't paint much of a rosy picture on help coming just around the corner. Hopefully Means is just a matter of getting some work in and the results will come.

Wells has pitched 6 innings at Bowie and given up 5 hits and 2 walks with 1 HR. OK so perhaps he can get back in the fold.

I think Hall could be a difference maker in the BP sooner than later.

I think he will, check out his BB/K since he came back and starting pitching out of the bullpen.

Count me in the camp that thinks Hall can be of some help to the Pen.

I think he could be a difference maker. I won't go so far as to say he will be a difference maker. There are some red flags there that suggest you can't just go off minor league numbers. The big leagues are different. The big leagues while chasing down a pennant are different. Pressure/stakes/etc. - it's all real. Doesn't feel like his strong suit IMO.

Right. It doesnt help that he is a headcase and its a pennant race. In all seriousness I hope he is lights out if he gets the call. Will give him a clean slate

Yep.  I'm optimistic enough to want to give him some run over the final weeks.  But pessimistic enough to really regret that we're relying on him because more wasn't done at the deadline to improve the pen.  Robertson and Sewald should be Orioles, IMO.  Bad decision-making, IMO.  Hopefully we'll find enough help internally for it not to hurt come October, but I'm skeptical.

What has he done to constitute being labeled a headcase?

Hasn’t improved his control issues enough basically. There are signs that he could be a guy that gets in his own head but I’m not ready to label him that. I do think he runs on confidence.

Every pitcher in the organization is a headcase. Povich, Hall, Kremer, Rodriguez, etc.
