The Orioles have acquired INF/OF Jimmy Paredes from the Royals in exchange for cash considerations. Paredes has been optioned to AAA Norfolk

Don't know anything about him ... does anyone?

Welcome back!

So, uh, why? I feel like we have a whole bunch of middle infielders in the upper minors.

And some posters thought we wouldn't make any moves before the deadline...

My best guess? A Triple-A depth move, perhaps in advance of a deal or two.

He's a bit from MLB Rumors............

Paredes went from the Astros to the Marlins to the Orioles to the Royals on waivers this offseason and ultimately received just 10 plate appearances (which yielded a pair of singles) for Kansas City’s big league club. Most of his season was spent at Omaha, where he produced a strong .305/.332/.457 batting line in 280 plate appearances.

As a career .306/.343/.468 hitter that bats from both sides of the plate and can play multiple positions, it’s not surprising that Paredes continues to find clubs willing to give him a 40-man roster spot. However, he’s yet to produce in 406 big league plate appearances, having totaled just a .233/.272/.308 batting line.

Hopefully it's not a sign of Manny going to the DL.

They tried to acquire him during the offseason but the Royals scooped him up from us.

I think he's just a guy DD likes.

Roch said the depth at AAA was pretty poor (position player-wise), so I think that's what this has to do with.  However, the prospect of Manny missing any significant time is really concerning.

Or, is this a move to help make a deal that involves shipping off Schoop?  Schoop has had a few good days lately, and should be an intriguing player for anyone.  Maybe we can shop him and either Bundy/Harvey or Harvey/Erod/Schoop to get Lee & Utley???  (wishful thinking)

I can poop in one hand and wish in the other...guess which one will probably fill up first?

Orioles infielder Jimmy Paredes (back) will play in extended spring training Monday, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Paredes is on the disabled list to begin the season due to strained back. If all goes well Monday, he could begin a rehab assignment with high Class A Frederick soon afterward.

Are you guys totally dismissing what Paredes has done

1. Last year with the team (.818 OPS)

2. In Spring Training this year (10 extra base hits out of 20 hits)

3. So far this year

Obviously, he won't keep this up, but this can't be the same guy who didn't hit for power in the minors and bounced around from team to team.    I'm buying into Paredes.     It's curious that Buck put him right into the #2 and #3 hole without doing a thing this year.    I think Buck buys into him too.

Real deal? (Future nugget)

Mirage?  (won't be a regular by all-star break)

He's not missing any fastballs, that is for sure.

He has an opportunity to get some everyday ab's for now, and if he continues to rake... they will find room for him somehow on the roster.

Verducci said on the telecast last week that stance wise he looks like Cano. I can see that. Does look very similar stance wise.  Paredes is quick to the ball right now, and just looks confident.

I would think the key for him with the O's is showing he can be versatile, and not a butcher with the glove.  If you can stand him at 2nd, SS, 3rd, LF (and DH), without him killing you glove wise... you can probably continue to find him some ab's, even as the roster gets healthier.

Of course the other thing to watch is what adjustments the league makes the more they see him, and how he does against probably more off-speed offerings.

League will adjust..will he? That's when you will be able to truly answer your question.

Ultimately, he is probably your typical dime a dozen bench player who has value and can do things for you when given an opportunity. Plenty of guys like that and he's another example of a player you keep instead of giving role players 3-6 million.

As soon as he gets expensive, you get rid of him too.
