Listening to a few radio shows/podcasts recently, its incredible how much more I notice the accent when I'm not living in the area (full disclosure, I started developing it again towards the end of June when I was spending a large amount of time at home).
There are so many nuances beyond the well known stuff of Hon, the elongated O, etc. Upair (there) is a good example. The way everyone says 'wire', which I can't even begin to spell phenotically. 'Going' and 'on' pronounced as if they rhyme. Like 'at. And so OH-WIN....
Here the big one I've noticed this week - you know. Its really quite astounding how much that one gets thrown around. Its the go-to pause filler. Check it out the next time you chat with someone, particularly someone older.
I'm not saying any of this to make anyone feel self conscious, so please don't take it that way, but I wanted to have a place to collect various smaller balmer-isms.
