Per a tweet from Ken Rosenthal. He'll report to Triple A Norfolk.

Honestly, this could be a solid signing. He can play multiple positions and had a decent bat in the past. I'm open to anything.

What about some of his stats with Mil.? He was decent with them if I do recall correctly.

He's had a nice career, just thought the last two years were more relevant. Here are his career stats:

Good point. What's your take on this signing? I see it as an omen that someone won't make it through the whole season for the Orioles.

It is a long season, and additional roster depth is always a good thing. Obviously Hall has the ability to play multiple positions, and shown some pop previously in his career.

If you could make a deal with the Cubs, allowing you to send Flaherty down, I'd rather have Hall on the bench. Though, I'd probably prefer to have Antonelli on the bench over Hall regardless.

That's like quoting Dontrelle Willis' stats with the Marlins. Hall hasn't played with Milwaukee since mid-2009. He also hasn't had a particularly decent season since his monster 2006. He's versatile, and at one time had some power, but he doesn't walk OR hit for average. I can't imagine he would be any better at this point then, say, Ryan Flahrety. And he already doesn't get PT.

I'm not against the deal, because depth is always helpful and no one at Norfolk is exactly lighting up the scoreboard (except Avery, who might be playing left field in Baltimore in September...or centerfield in August for that matter). I don't think he would be particularly helpful except as someone to bring up in lieu of a struggling younger player.

Yeah I was honestly thinking the same thing. I'm not a big fan of Flaherty on the bench over Antonelli or even Hall. I honestly thought Antonelli would make the big league club from spring. As much as I can understand why Nick Johnson is on the roster, he is definitely up for consideration for being sent. Probably a while away from that but i guess I'm just frustrated.

Why an older guy like Hall over a younger guy like Flaherty? Do you think of Ryan as more of a prospect who needs the time, or just that Hall would contribute more?

Don't have a problem with this signing. I think it's an indication that somebody (Antonelli?) will join the big league club in the near future. Hell, maybe we work out a trade with the Cubs and get to send down Flaherty.

I think Showalter is showing he is uncomfortable with using Flaherty, which does not help him or the O's. Hall might not play a ton, but has the versatility to be used. If he languished on the bench, it obviously does not impact his development at all.

That's what I figured, and I see the sense that makes. I just wonder why the team won't use Flaherty more.

Can't be any worse than what we've had out there. I hate when old school managers get certain things in their head and just refuse to give certain players a chance.

Sounds like another "I will sign someone who was playing the last time I was a GM" kind of move.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Duquette's last year as GM, Hall was 22 and playing 19 games for a 106-loss Brewers club :D

You know, we seem to have done pretty well signing Hall's formerly washed up double-play partner. As I recall, he hit 30 HR for us last year after hitting a total of 17 the previous two years.

Granted, Hall's success was longer ago and his drop off was even more severe. But I don't see why this wouldn't be a good move from a depth perspective. And if it turns out that he has something left in the tank, all the better. It's not like it cost us much of anything to sign him to a minor league deal.
