And if any of their major teams had ever won a championship before.

I learned that the Sonics won the NBA Championship in 1979 against the Bullets, no less.

And that the Seattle Metropolitans hockey team was the first American team to win the Stanley Cup.

Who knew?

I'll be rooting for Seattle this Sunday.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Seattle is right up there with likes of Cleveland and Buffalo IMO in terms of tortured cities.

They had arguably the greatest core of players in MLB in the 90s and didn't win squat.  They won 120+ games in 2001 and lost in the playoffs.

Their basketball team, before it was stolen from them, had the infamous 1 vs 8 loss against Denver in the 90s.  Then they draft Durant only to see him skip town to OKC.

The football team's one Super Bowl appearance was marred by a few controversial calls.

They haven't had it easy -- it's hard to feel TOO bad for them, however, considering it's Seattle.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

I put money on the Mariners in 2001 at a sports book in the Bahamas after they got off to that really hot start. Figures they win 120 games and then lose to the effing Yankees.

Well they DO have the Seattle Storm of the WNBA and they have two titles, in 2004 and 2010. And they have Sue Bird. So no, I don't feel too bad for them.

I wasn't sure, so I just googled and confirmed that the WNBA still exists.
