Not sure how much of a hit this will be. The "aces" talk in the Ravens thread earlier sort of inspired this. Sounds like there are more than a few people, like myself, who are interested in poker.

I figure if you need a place to tell your bad beat story, or if you frequent Maryland Live, or another casino in your area if you don't live in MD, share your thoughts here.

Read a good book on the game, debate strategy, learn a new game, whatever...

I'll start, since I just went to MD Live a couple weeks back for the first time. Very nice room. Seems to be a hit as I went at 9:00am on a Tuesday and it was packed. They had a waiting list of over 30 people for $1/2 NL, at 9:00am. I didn't wait long as once some more dealers showed up, they opened up new games on the second floor.

I bought in for $100. I usually won't play unless I can sit down with the table max (Most places $300 for $1/2) but I had been itching to play some cards. I play tight for a while, got my stack up to close to $200 after about 3 hours of play. Not many great staring hands. I end up calling a $10 raise on the button with 6d 7d. Flop comes 5d 8d 4c. Four of us in the pot. First two check, the original raiser bets out $30 into a $40 pot. I think hes got a high pocket pair, and doesn't want someone drawing to the flush. I also don't want someone drawing to a higher flush. but with the straight already I raise it up to $60. Both other guys fold, and the raiser put me all-in for about $135 more. Now I'm thinking he's got trip 8's, isn't putting me on 6 7, and really doesn't want me drawing to him. I call right away. He turns over pocket 5's. The damn board pairs on the turn with an 8h giving him the full house. Can't remember the river card cause it didn't matter.

That sucked.

Went to Maryland Live for the first time last Tuesday.  I wasn't impressed, maybe because I was driving to the mall instead of Atlantic City but I just didn't have that same excitement I get when I go to play at The Trop or somewhere else up in NJ.  The tables are nice enough and I like that there's a bunch of TV's in the room, but I can't even get a free beer while I play, that's weak.  I also felt like they were still a bit unorganized over there.   I lost count of the number of times the dealer at my table or another table had to call over the supervisor to sort out some sort of mix up.  The girl giving people more chips who bought more after sitting down screwed up two different times, if you can't count to 160 maybe you should get a new job.  In relation to that you could definitely tell who were the "new" dealers and who have done this before.  I might give them one more chance, but it won't be for a while.

If I play hold em, I can only play tourneys.

2/4 pot limit is a boring game to me.

I have played in 2 tourneys in AC...one was a 40 person tourney that I finished 3rd in and another was a 65 person tourney that I finished 7th.

Once I get my house together and gets all the stuff I need, I plan on having poker nights once or twice a month for those who are interested.

I'd be down for a good poker night once a month or so. I loved tournament style hold'em as well. Cash games are fun, because you can easily win a couple hundred in a few hours off some nubs. Just gotta watch out for those beats.

The beat Mike laid out above is an all too common one for me. Flopping a flush, or a straight, only to have someone's pocket pair turn into a boat. Nothing more frustrating than that.

That reminds me of another gripe of MD Live all their tournaments allow for rebuys for the first two hours of play which I hate.

If I play cash games, I like to play everything...Don';t get me wrong, a lot of those games are pure luck but I still love playing them.

Like to do a tourney to start and then turn it into dealers choice after.

I played in a tourney with rebuys once...Will never do it again.

That's not real poker...that's, who has the most money.

Tell me about it.  You get a bunch of clowns that will call all ins with no regard to what they have.   They lose they simply buy right back in, or worse they make a hand with their crap cards and wind up beating you.

I hear MD live is ridiculous. Like a 4 hour waiting list on the weekend.

I just started playing online free poker, very addictive!

I play on the GeaxGame smartphone app.

Right...there's no skill.

In the one I played, you could re-buy in the first hour of the tourney.

I had one guy re-buy 6 times in the first 30 minutes.

I just have no interest in doing that again.

Cash games are a waste of time and money, IMO. Or tourneys where you can buy back as many times for an hour or so.

I prefer single buy-in, no rebuys (or one within the first hour if it's a bigger game) and that's that.

I've played 8 hours of poker once and finished 4 out of like 30. It was fun but I don't need to play poker as long as I work.

I prefer 3-4 hour games.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I can imagine on weekends it's crazy at MD Live. 4 hour wait wouldn't surprise me. 9am on a Tuesday it was packed on the first floor, and it only took a couple hours to fill the second floor. No free drinks is weak, but the house doesn't make much off poker players. Even at their $25 blackjack tables you have to pay for drinks though. Thats very weak. I didn't have any problems with the dealers. There were a couple complex split pots, no problems. Maybe their varsity squad was on that day.

I talked to a manager about their tournaments, because right now they have a $60 satellite to a $500 seat on Sundays where the prize is a trip to Aruba for a tournament of some kind. I hate satellites, rebuys, and late entrants. I asked if they ever planned on having sit and gos, or cash tournaments. They will once the luster wears off. Until the poker demand goes down, no cash prize tournaments.

The drinks aren't free at MD live?  That's messed up.

I actually don't usually drink when I gamble but still, I would like the option for free if I choose to.

The one that they are building in the city is probably going to be a big cluster*** for a while too.

It seems pointless to drive up to AC when you have so many within an hour and half from you now but still, something about going up to AC.

You like playing at the Trop? I hate that place. It's a dump. If I'm not going to Borgata I have no desire to be in AC, although I haven't played at Revel yet.

Revel is really nice.

Not sure what the poker room is like but that hotel is clearly right there with the Borgota in terms of how nice it is.

Yeah, the free drinks is stupid in our eyes, but it's a good biz move for them IMO because it's so much nicer than any other place around here, and D-Park charges for drinks too...so if you want to play poker, you pretty much have to deal with it.

I think MD live is nice but nothing beats AC. The atmosphere, free drinks, girls. Something about it, as you say.
