If you watched even a small sample size like I did during last night's PITT-FSU game, you might be enamored with "Famous Jameis" Winston as well: http://www.thesports...opeful-already/

Pitt is horrible. I'm going to wait until he plays at least a mediocre team before getting on board the hype train.

Interestingly, the first "at least mediocre" team on FSU's schedule this season would appear to be the Terps, on Oct 5.

Well, Pitt is horrible overall, but it's mainly because they're horrible on offense. They were 17th in the country last year in total defense and returned 8 starters. Not saying they're incredible, but defensively they are better than mediocre. I do agree we need to see more to anoint him the next star, though.

ESPN: Jameis Winston not charged

http://espn.go.com/c...t-investigation

I don't want to lessen the seriousness of the allegations. This is a sports site, FSU is in national championship, and Winston is up for the Heisman.

Truth be told, very few people including the alleged victim, alleged perpetrator, and witnesses will truly know if a crime was committed that night.

This has to help his chances for the Heisman and FSU going to the national championship, which they probably were going to do already if they beat Duke, but now the argument can't be made "how will they be without Winston."

The last two times a black quarter back in the south was sprinting toward a NC and a Heisman, accusations of phantom crimes have been surfaced to try and smear their character and credibility. News outlets need to be more responsible about this non-sense. Justice should be brought to whoever is sourcing these controversies. There is no doubt in my mind of malicious intent. Just my opinion. I have no proof.

My hunch is he was going to win it either way, but it would have been much closer. Also, Death Valley had a little bit to do with it too. ;)

Well deserved.

Another thing that's screwed up about this whole thing is that, say Winston has a career ending injury Saturday... he never received a time as a college athlete (well, maybe), and yet is subject to the same public scrutiny over a phantom crime as OJ Simpson and Martha Stewart received. It's so unfortunate for amateur, unpaid athletes to be subject to this level of scrutiny, especially when it's not substantiated.

@NBCSportsRadio We regret the poor choice of words and in no way meant to minimize the seriousness of the situation

I appreciated Sportscenter showing us a continual live feed of the room where the press conference was going to take place 30, 45 minutes before any press conference started.  Quality journalism right there.

I'm not saying he did anything. I don't like the term phantom charges if  it's meant to  assume he is definitely innocent.

Again, not saying Winston did anything wrong, but sadly I know of an instance where someone was sexually assaulted and an investigation led to charges not being filed.

Of course, I want to believe Winston being a star athlete would have nothing to do with charges being filed or not, but I'm not that naïve.

I assume they started at 2ish and kept going back to it throughout the show? That was probably to make sure people who tuned in at various times throughout knew they didn't miss the announcement (and would thus stay tuned).

Not really any worse than when networks are live for a presidential address and the White House is running behind. At least Sportscenter has other things to talk about in the meantime.

Well it would be one thing if they didn't have, in bigger letters on the left of the screen "Jameis Winston press conference live on SC at 2 pm."  Okay so the presser is gonna be at 2 on ESPN.  Thanks for the heads up there.  No need to than block up part of the bottom of the screen with a continual live feed of reporters shooting the breeze together infront of an empty podium on/off (mostly on) for close to an hour before it happens.

So they were doing it before 2? I wasn't watching, so I don't know when the press conference actually happened.

Oh yeah, well before 2 pm.  SC was on at the gym when I was in there.  From like 1:00 pm on it was "live feed" time on/off (mostly on).

My stance was a bit bold, and out of line considering I don't know what actually happened as I wasn't there. I was approaching it from the angle that I suspect foul play at hand. Rape is a huge problem in this country, and one of the saddest parts about it are when women are afraid to come forward due to the taboo/sexism involved in admitting you were raped. Not to mention, loud mouth's like me sometimes immediately defending the perp without knowing one way or the other. That isn't right.

This situation brings mixed emotions for me. I suspect racism, but I don't know. There are rumors that the girl's family has strong ties to Alabama, so who knows if there was more intent there. Further more, in my research, I know that thousands among thousands of actual rapes go unreported every year out of the fears I mentioned above.

Not every thought should be vocalized. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Winston is a complete scumbag idiot. Would not surprise me in the least if he did it but nothing will come of this.

Very serious allegations, and very well could just be more people throwing dirt on him, but who would really be surprised?

This dude is going down hard sooner or later. The spiral is already underway.
