An awful lot is riding on the shoulders of young Dylan Bundy. In every report you see about Bundy, you hear similar refrains: 'Great work ethic, highly polished.'

You also see repeatedly that he can and should arrive in Baltimore sometime in '13. Considering he was going to his prom a few months ago, that is incredibly high phrase. For that to be plausible, he has to end '12 having had at-least reached Frederick and having success.

I'll be pleased if he can split the year between Delmarva and Frederick and having pitched 120-150 innings with good results. If that occurs, he can start '13 at Bowie, and will be poised to be knocking on the Baltimore door at some point next year.

I've seen Keith Law say he wants to see Bundy end '12 at Bowie. That will be very impressive if that occurs.

If the scouting reports are true, there's zero reason to start him below Delmarva.

I want to see him get comfortable in the minors and develop his secondary stuff. That's what's important right now. I could care less about numbers, that's not what the minors is about. It's about developing your skills.

I could see Bundy up in 2013. Remind me which year we have to have him up on the major league roster? Is is 2014 or 2015?

From the MLB.com / Ghiroli article when Bundy signed:

"Jordan said the Major League contract was something that was "very important" to Bundy's side, and although the organization tried to avoid it, they ultimately decided it was worth the risk in signing Bundy. Signing a draftee to a Major League deal benefits the player by placing him on the 40-man roster and therefore making it easier to promote him to the Majors later. The player also has the potential of seeing a domino effect on future salaries, as his salary can't be less than 80 percent of his total compensation from the previous year.

The team loses roster flexibility with a Major League deal for a Draft pick, though it gains the advantage of lowering the average annual value by spreading it over multiple years. Players have three or four years in which they can be optioned to the Minors without clearing waivers, and with a Major League deal, the first option is typically used in the player's first year, which can also accelerate a player's timetable and forces the team's hand in the future. "

With everyone saying Bundy was as polished (or more than) the College arms, I had no problem with him getting the Major League deal.

Unless he's really impressing or the Orioles are contending, there's no reason to rush him. In an ideal world, September of 2013 would be the absolute earliest I'd call Bundy up to the Major League roster. He still has to work on his secondary stuff. I'm extremely impressed with him so far. From what I've seen, his fastball is already almost major league ready.

FWIW, I was chatting with Jason Churchill (@ProspectInsider) on Twitter the other day and he told me that Bundy has a chance to be the no. 1 prospect in baseball this time next year and won't qualify for prospect lists two years from now because he'd be in the big leagues too long. So yeah, I think he likes Bundy.

One of the few things I'm looking forward to this year is seeing how Bundy progresses. The guy is a blue-chip stud.

Even Keith Law loves Bundy. If Keith Law loves a player, that's usually a really good sign because he's usually a dick.

Assuming of course he is as advertised, yes I would.

I don't think kids under high A would stand much of a chance against him. I would rather he face adversity his rookie season in pro ball then dominate.

I would ideally see him in Baltimore next season so they can make the most of that contract he signed.

Well I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitar player.

Regardless of whether it's a big league deal or not, Bundy has six years of team control with Baltimore once he hits the bigs. No matter when you get him to the bigs, those arbitration years will creep up faster and escalate quicker than the normal six-year, non big league deal kind of player like Wieters or Jones.

Bundy is not eligible for salary arbitration while under the current deal he signed last summer.

No way Bundy is in the big's in 2013. Hell DD, has said that the current young pitchers were brought up to early. He even hinted that they could all go down to start the season. Wouldn't that be lovely? :(

I hope to see Bundy stay healthy and work on his off-speed offerings. It's obvious his fastball is big league already.

I hope they START him in Delmarva not Frederick. I would like to see him have some immediate success and build on that.

I'll be pretty surprised if he is not up at some point next year. I think he will be fast-tracked.

I tend to envision 1/2 a season a Delmarva, 1/2 a season at Frederick, starts at Bowie next year. By mid-season is knocking on the door.

Immediate success can be hurtful, too. If he can just get guys out without making adjustments or polishing your pitches, that doesn't help his chances at higher levels.

From the reports this spring, I'd start him in Frederick. I doubt he would struggle there to the point that it would affect his ability to improve.

Dylan Bundy is obviously a phenomenal talent, and already one of the two best prospects the O's have.

Just curious what you guys think the team should do with him in terms of where he plays in the minors and how they promote him. What should his ETA to the majors be?

One note to ponder as you post: Keith Law spoke to a MLB FO Executive who said that if Bundy was 6'4" instead of just 6', he could be in an opening day rotation.

He sounds like he is headed to Delmarva, but I don't understand why Frederick wouldn't be a consideration as well. If he struggles at Frederick then he can be demoted to Delmarva. If he mows them down in A Ball then why not letting him try at the end of season at Bowie. Then the next season he can pitch his way quickly to the Orioles. If he is that good and that mature then why not. If he is one of the top 5 pitchers by 2014 he should be in the rotation.

The sad thing? He might be one of the 5 best pitchers in the organization now.

That said, I absolutely do not think he should be in the majors, that's just silly.
He's likely headed to minor league camp after pitching this upcoming Sunday.

I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks as well...

Start him at high A, promote to AA at the break if warranted. If warranted start at AAA next season promote in May/June.

The O's are in a unique situation with Bundy where an accelerated promotion schedule saves the team money. If his performance warrants it the only delays should be one year to acclimate himself to pitching professionally and enough time in the minors to guarantee a seventh season of team control.

Obviously this is a best case scenario in which Bundy dominates his competition.

Well I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitar player.

I think the biggest things is slowly but steadily increasing his IP.

Remember, he only threw 70 innings last year.

Ideally I'd have him:
2012 - Delmarva / Frederick: 100 - 125 IP
2013 - Frederick / Bowie / MLB: 125 - 150 IP
2014 - Bowie / Norfolk / MLB: 150 - 175 IP
2015 - MLB: 200 IP
