We based the contending crab cakes on ones we had tried before, often recommended places, and award winners from websites and places like City Paper. Places such as G&M etc. were not included because if at least three of the judges had tried them previously and agreed they would not compete with some of the other contestants they were eliminated. Of course lots of beer was also consumed during the tasting.

And the winner is...

G&M's (and Hella's and Romano's) is better than Pappa's in my opinion, though I like both.

I've only had Koco's and Faidley's from this list.  Koco's is my favorite in the city.

Big upset IMO for Koco's to lose! I've never had Pappas, going to have to make a trip now.

Also, I've had G+M, they're wonderful, but not as good as Koco's.

Also also, I still think the best crabcake I've ever had is at The Prime Rib.

G&M is my favorite.

Michaels on York Rd makes a really good crab cake as well.

Pappas is close to my parents house (you pass by it on the way to Big Bad Wolf) lets go next time I'm home.

I've only had Faidley's on that list (only ate hard-shell crabs at Costa's) but I swear by G&M. I get some of theirs FedEx'd out here about once every 2 or 3 months.

It looks like Faidley's is the only place within walking distance to the stadium. Are there any other really good places for crab cakes near the stadium?

....and now i'm craving Big Bad Wolf for lunch today.  I suppose worse things could happen.

As for the crab cakes, I've had 3 on the list.  Koco's have always been my favorite, but will have to try Pappas at some point soon.

I haven't tried all of them on the list but I can say that Pappas' is excellent.

I used to live near there and would make a point each payday to get some.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I had Pappas on Saturday for the first time. Excellent cake. Those ratings are spot on. Buttery and fluffy from the egg binder. Huge lumps. Probably my second favorite right now.

I often ship G&M to family as a Christmas gift. Last year, someone told me the quality of their cakes have gone downhill in recent years. Anyone here agree, or know why?

Haven't been to G&M in a while, or had their cakes, but they were always overrated and more based on quantity over quality.

I do know they recently increased their prices, so they may be looking to make even more money by going with different, less quality ingredients.

Pappas ships cakes, BTW. Highly recommended.

If you're in the area, I think that The Olive Grove (which is like 200 yards down the street) has better crabcakes than G&M.  G&M's crabcakes are pretty good, and they're big, but I always think that they're a little bland.

I live 2 minutes from Pappas. Want to say it's a 10 oz. cake. But Twice a year during restaurant week they do a 12 oz on the special menu and part of the proceeds go to charity.

Pappas tops my list.
