Starting DB Antwaine Richardson has also entered the transfer portal. I had assumed his collegiate career was over after the team honored him on Senior Day.

Richardson has officially transferred to Kent State.

Report that Scottie Montgomery has been fired.

https://247sports.co...Enos-158862091/

Jeff Ermann reporting that Locksley is targeting Dan Enos for the job. This is somewhat surprising to me given Locksley's insistence on staff continuity. But Montgomery wasn't much of a recruiter and the offensive scheme is more Locksley's than anyone else's. So if he thinks Enos can develop the QBs better, I guess this makes sense.

Also worth noting that Enos was at least somewhat involved in Taulia Tagovailoa's recruitment at Alabama, as he was their quarterbacks coach when he committed. He never coached him however, as he'd moved on to Miami to serve as their offensive coordinator.

Enos has assisted in the development of eventual NFL QBs Drew Stanton (Michigan State - 2006), Brandon Allen (Arkansas - 2015), Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama - 2018), Jalen Hurts (Alabama - 2018), and Mac Jones (Alabama - 2018).

Jeff is also hinting that this won't be the only change to the staff this offseason, though those reports are behind a paywall.

Just saw Matt Zenitz tweet that offensive line coach John Reagan has been fired, and is expected to be replaced with Brian Braswell. This could explain the departures of Johnny Jordan and Marcus Minor.

Braswell was most recently the offensive line coach for the St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL) and has experience as a quality control coach for the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

Well, at least Reagan lasted more than one season, unlike his three predecessors. Back to the revolving door for the OL.

As for Montgomery and recruiting, I wouldn't make that a point of emphasis for the next OC. They currently have the #18 class for 2021, so I think they're fine on recruiters (just make sure Brian Williams gets a raise/promotion, pronto). If Locksley wants an OC who runs his offense, that's fine; but get a guy who can take that and put together a good gameplan based on the abilities of the players he has available, can get those players prepared to execute the plan, and can make the right play calls on Saturdays.

Also, slightly off-topic, and I know Matt Zenitz used to cover UM for The Sun and probably still has contacts who keep him informed, but this is not the first time as an Alabama-based reporter he broke UM news. Maybe it's the pandemic, maybe it's apathy because none of their major programs are having good seasons, or maybe they've had their resources cut to the bone, but the local sports media sure seems asleep at the wheel when it comes to UM coverage these days.

Would guess he still has the Locksley connection.

I don't think anyone's been on the beat that long, which seems like the easiest explanation. Don Markus took a buyout I think like 18 months ago and everyone else on the beat hasn't been around for more than 2-3 years.

Doesn't seem like enough.  Really hope this wasn't some hard fought negotiation by the University.

Maize n Brew: Michigan hiring Maryland assistant George Helow to coach safeties

https://www.maizenbr...-coach-safeties

Helow was the Special Teams Coordinator and Inside Linebackers Coach for Maryland.

Cornerbacks coach Henry Baker has experience as a Special Teams Coordinator with Delaware, so he may be an internal option for that position if Locksley doesn't fill it with Helow's replacement.

Sounds like Helow was offered more money at Michigan and Locksley opted not to give him a raise. This will likely hurt them with 3-star OL Michael Myslinski, as Helow was recruiting him with former offensive line coach John Reagan. Although, he was rumored to be leaning towards Iowa regardless.

The team has hired Jason Wooding as its Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach. He's originally from Langley Park, MD, played football at Howard University, and spent the last two years in the same position with Texas Tech. Before that, he spent a year at Houston in the same position for the Cougars' men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's golf programs.
