This is a good point....The inflated stats have a lot to do with a very weak final 4 games

Didnt read but I believe a lot of what we are doing offensively is legit. Its more on defense where I think we can be exposed by good teams.

Every defense gets exposed by good teams this year. Are there any good defenses that it's a challenge to score 20 on?

If a team gets their passrush hot on any given day, they can have a great day. But there are no great defenses.

This is true ...especially with the holds and stuff that are not getting called. I still think the Raiders got screwed on the face mask and hold that wasn’t called on the Dolphins left tackle.

I remember a similar (cross body) arm around the neck that wasn’t called on Cleveland that resulted in a TD against us.

Still too many missed tackles, penalties, long conversions, being pushed around a bit at the line. Against good offenses I think we're still vulnerable to being bitched. It was encouraging to see the pass rush ramp up today

Not arguing with any of that. I just think that's about as good as you can be in the NFL right now. They aren't the best, but how far behind the best are they? And does it even matter? Is the best defense in the NFL capable of keeping a good offense under 30? 20?

If they can get Peters, Humphries, and Smith all healthy... Wink lets them play some man and they have a good day and blanket their assignments... I think they have the POTENTIAL to stifle a good offense. But those are 3 big IFs that have to break their way.

And continue to run the ball, and control the clock.

I just fear some of these teams might be able to do anything they want. Or maybe impose their will is a better way of putting it. Something like what Cle did in the 2nd half against us or Tenn the last quarter in a half. Even NE in the 1st half. Its just deflating when you cant stop the opposition or have to sell out to do it. Technically we're keeping points off the board at one of the best rates in the league. No argument there, but again, its the way that at times an opposing offense can dominate that concerns me.

Well, but that is every team in the league.  New Orleans is another defense that is great at keeping points off of the board, but they just gave up 33 to Minnesota.  This is an offense first league.  That was one of my reservations with getting a defensive player at the trading deadline.  The Ravens think they can beat KC by slowing them down enough defensively to beat them.  The teams that beat the Chiefs are those that can keep up offensively.  The Raiders suck on defense, yet they beat the Chiefs once, and were close to doing it again.  The Ravens defense is not great, but it is one of the better ones given the rules bias in the NFL.

No doubt. I was at the Ravens final reg game in 2000 when the Jets put up 524 yards on us. Luckily Vinny did some Vinny things and Jermaine Lewis did some Jermaine Lewis things. The point here being that was a blip in 2000. I have real concerns that most of the teams we could face can dictate to our defense.

I think the biggest concern I would have is that I have seen multiple times this year where tackling was poor, and where coverage was weak.  When you do that against the teams the Ravens have faced recently, it doesn't affect the outcome.  Do that against playoff teams and you lose.

The great Raven defenses led by Ray Lewis didn't care who the opponent was, they just crushed them.

Well scoring's way up.  There are currently 3 teams with pts/game allowed less than 20: Miami, LA Rams, and Pitt.  The Ravens are at exactly 20.

Of those teams, I'd say that the Rams and Pitt are the truly good defenses.

The only team I worry about us getting bullied by is the Titans, maybe Indy if they sneak back in. Cleveland can run but we score at will and push them around on offense. The Browns threw 53 times yesterday without their WRs while Chubb & Hunt only had 15 carries!

I agree that the key for us right now is getting the secondary back together. A dime defense with Averett and Smith would go a long way against the passing teams we have to go through. I'm encouraged by the pass rush but think level of competition has something to do with that. But having all our horses in the secondary gives Wink a lot of options to generate rush.

Agree regarding the Titans and Colts. Indy seems to have realized that Jonathan Taylor is good, and he honestly reminds me a bit of a younger Henry/Chubb with his raw strength and willingness to make punishing runs and challenge defenses.

I've been pleased overall with the Ravens' offensive improvement as of late. They are finally letting Lamar be Lamar, which is all he needs to be to be great. Hopefully they remember that if/when they make the playoffs.

Considering where they were at a month ago, you can't be too displeased with the current status of the team.  If they go into the playoffs on a 5-game winning streak, that's what you like to see as opposed to limping into the post season.  What I fear more than Roman resorting to his 50-60 pass attempts for Lamar is the overall lack of discipline this team shows week after week with stupid penalties and other mental blunders.  Against lousy teams, you can get away with it but come play-off time, they sure as hell better clean things up or it will be a one and done again.  No doubt in my mind.

I mean, that quote is taken out of context.

With that said, I've been happier with how the Ravens have looked the last 4 weeks. Much more resemblance to the 2019 team, much less to mediocrity of the first 11 weeks.
