Today’s world of holding no one responsible for their actions. I hope the Ref goes after him for assault.

It looks like the ref is not permanently injured which is lucky considering he's 59 years old.

The charge is a Class A misdemeanor which is the most severe misdemeanor in Texas.  Penalties are up to a year in jail and up to $4,000 fine.

Downstream consequences can includes credit problems and problems with things like qualifying for student loans, renting apartments and so forth.  Even though what he did is not a felony, nonetheless he committed a violent offense and because he is 18 he will have that on his permanent record.  Probation is an option.

The football team is no longer eligible for post season play - I'll bet the team loves him for that.  If the student is not expelled over this, you can expect he'll never again compete in any sport for the rest of his time in high school.  What the hell did he think he would accomplish by this?

Mental health has always been the biggest epidemic facing this country. When you see it in our youth like this, it's just really sad. I don't want the kid to do jail time or have his credit or future impacted - I want him to get help. Never play a team sport again. And find a way to be a functioning member of society moving forward. It's just so sad to see a kid do something like this.

Hes got to do his time as an 18 yr old adult. Consequences for actions. That said agree with you about his credit and not having his future too negatively impacted.

The kid should not be allowed on a football field or a gym for wrestling, for at least a year.  Let the jack ass find a way to pay for his college, like everyone else.

The guy could have done serious harm to the ref.

And I was even more shocked at reading your article and how this is not a first for Texas High School football.

That was the first thought I had.  On a positive side, it was good to see some of the players on the opposing team come to the refs aide.

You are right, good to see some decency out there.

Totally agree.   If your his team mate(s), you need to drag his ass off the field.

Not in the slightest.

I get Texas High School football is insane. They play in stadiums better than some colleges, and I noticed the ref was mic up, so there must have been TV there.

However, there are some things that I will not tolerate. Body slamming the ref is one thing, its not like it was accidental contact in the heat of the moment when you are going face to face. There is not one chance in hell, that he could come up with a justification for his actions.

Agreed, A gutless attack from the blind side against a much smaller older man IMO, is not defendable.

It's no doubt not defendable. But seeing something like this happen in TX just doesn't surprise me too much.

Edinburg High School's Emmanuel Duron Suspended After Tackling Referee on Video

So says the headline on the following story from Bleacher Report:  https://bleacherrepo...eferee-on-video

Bottom line?  Precious little IMHO - suspended from HS sports for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

In addition to Duron's suspension, Edinburg head coach JJ Leija received one year of probation to start in 2021-22. Edinburg's athletic teams will also be under a probationary period with immediate effect until the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic calendar.

Color me unimpressed to the point of nauseated, but hey Texans love their HS football don't they?

If I remember right, he was one of the top wrestlers in the entire state, not sure how this will affect him.

The biggest price paid in all of that, was the High School Football team that was removed from the playoffs due to this incident and in spite of their winning the game. So his teammates really suffered worse than he did. IMO
