I am one that can not get behind kneeling during the anthem.  No offense to anyone, it was how I was raised.  My Dad was a very proud WW2 vet.  That said, I understand how people think it is the proper way to make a statement.  I just chose not to watch it.

I know Fox 45 ran some poll, but did not take a look at the results.  If I had been at the game on Sunday, I would have stood, with my hat off as I always do.

Fair enough, agree to disagree on that, and that's cool. I realize there are people who feel that way, and while I disagree, I absolutely respect that.

But booing the "unity" stuff, and i saw many comments on Facebook and Twitter that the NFL putting "End Racism" in the end zone was "poltiical" to me was insane. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I could absolutely see the man running OH having an issue with those things as well.

I dont like some of the NFL  putting the name of a known sex offender on their Helmets, and I do have a major issue with that.

Oh, did the Bosa brothers put Trump's name on their helmets?

Just kidding. Sort of.

Sorry not funny. The man was convicted of sexual assault on an adult and child, resisting arrest previously. Active felony arrest warrant was issued, he resisted and tried to get into a car with 3 kids, and was at a property with an active restraining order in place. So yeah, kind of pissed that the NFL is making a hero out of him.

That's an interesting interpretation of what the NFL is doing. I really, and I mean this sincerely, cannot understand how anyone can reach the conclusion that they're making him out to be a hero.

What they're attempting to message is that he should not have been killed.

Not only that, but Trump was buddies with Jeffrey Epstein, and wished Maxwell well when she was arrested a couple months ago. Trump also told a tabloid reporter that he was cheating on Ivana Trump because a man of his status shouldn't have to have sex with a woman who has had children. Also, in the fact check department - The thing with the child in this case isn't true (fake news) - and he hasn't been convicted, he's been charged. Regardless, having committed a prior crime doesn't give cops the right to shoot you in the back 7 times. If it did, Trump would have had to have about 1,829 back transplants at this stage of his life.

I do to. I’m gonna get a little personal for a second.

My mom was a victim of domestic abuse 11, 12 years ago, from her boyfriend at the time. Drove herself to the hospital. Went to a halfway house where even us, her family, couldn’t know the location. Had to ask permission and sign out and be back by a certain time if she wanted to meet my brother and I out for lunch or dinner or something. Lived that way for 6 months. It’s not pretty. It’s not like they lock up the male and everything goes back to normal. Normal didn’t happen for like 2 years after the incident when you consider finding a new place to live after the halfway house. Avoiding/ghosting friends of hers that were also her boyfriends. In a small town in Carroll County wondering if you’ll run into the guy at the store or something.

I say that because she came over the day before the Ravens game Sunday. She’s a Ravens fan. I ask her if she’s excited about the game tomorrow. She tells me that she’s done with it because they are letting people out Jacob Blake’s name on their helmets.

Part of me was like, come on. It’s 2020, get with the program, mom. End racism shouldn’t be an issue. But part of me had to remember where this comes from for her, and I don’t fault her for it. I told her I watched the game Thursday and you can’t even tell. She doesn’t mind if slogans are on helmets, she’s fine with kneeling, end racism painted on the field etc...But Jacob Blake puts a thorn in her side as he was a known domestic abuser and sex offender, and in her mind he got what was coming to him. Basically, you can’t stand up for Jacob Blake and stand up against domestic abuse at the same time. Contradicts each other. She’s been a victim, so I have to agree with her.

I know it goes deeper than that, as the point is to bring police brutality to light, not glorify domestic/sex abusers. But if you got your choice of slogans, names to put on your helmet, I’m going to question why one would chose Jacob Blake over others. But it doesn’t bother me enough to say I’m done with the NFL either.

Circling back to the topic of the thread, I certainly wouldn’t nuke a site I owned over it either.

Really sorry about your mom, Mike. That's awful. The issue hits home for me too, more than anyone here could possibly know.

And at the same time, nuance and discipline are paramount to an evolved society. No one is saying Blake is a saint. People are saying, regardless of his past, there was no reason cops needed to shoot him 7 times in the back there.

We have to be able to distinguish between those issues rather than distract from the main issue at hand in this case.

Well said.

No one is being honored or remembered in this case for their misdeeds nor will everyone that is unjustly killed by police going to be as sympathetic of a character as Breonna Taylor.

I think the clear point is that regardless of if someone led a life that was great, awful, or anywhere in between, they shouldn't be killed by the police when that use of force isn't justified.

Sorry it has to hit home for you too. But you’re right. Have to differentiate. In that moment, he shouldn’t have been shot, and that’s the point here.

 That's horriffic.

I am really sorry that your mom went through that.

My only real issue with the on field demonstrations is that some can't take or understand the blowback that the players or the NFL is receiving, I have no issue with the players' demonstrating what they perceive to be injustices. However, because some one does not embrace that narrative that is being put forth by the demonstrations, feels that the kneeling itself is disrespectful, or has an issue with Jacob Blake being "honored" because he was shot by the police does not make their view wrong.

If someone doesn't embrace the reality that black lives haven't mattered as much as white lives have, and furthermore, that they should matter as much, yes, that is an issue of right and wrong and they're wrong.

OK.

The first part of what I said is objectively a fact and has been supported by an immense amount of evidence.

The second part is simply saying that racism is bad.

Which one do you disagree with? Or both?

If you think this is "too far" that's fine, but I'm curious. The NFL has accepted domestic abusers, suspected rapists, etc for quite some time. The Ray Rice situation, for example, was a hideous mark on this organization. Tyreek Hill is a Super Bowl champion. AP is still going strong. Big Ben has almost entirely rehabilitated his career with very little penalty.

I'm not sure why -this- would be the domestic violence "last straw."

I 100% get, and empathize with, why domestic violence would be a dealbreaker, and I'm not belittling that. But being mad at one and not the other feels weird to me. Nobody is glorifying people that do these things, at all (I know you agree...I'm just repeating).

As you said, the differentiation between how people are treated is the lede, and I'm not sure why that keeps getting buried.
