Very nice article.

These recent actions really make me wish even more that we would see some type of general strike. Unfortunately, it’s so hard to imagine a way it would be feasible - the people who tend to benefit the most from the impacts are the ones who also have the most to lose. The labor class is at such a disadvantage in our current system, economically and socially, that asking that level of potential personal sacrifice is an unfair burden to place on already at-risk communities like working class people, impoverished people, BIPOC, etc.

I’m pleased to see the leagues backing these actions, for the most part. I do think that athletes are one of the best ways to spread this message given our emphasis on celebrity and sports culture.

One league that’s been really impressive and forward thinking has been the Premier Lacrosse League. They don’t have anywhere near the platform of the major professional leagues, but it’s really cool to see from a community that has typically been hugely exclusive based on class and race.
