Per a release from the school....

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland Head Coach Michael Locksley announced updates to his coaching staff as the Terrapins head into the 2020 season. Brian Williams, who coached outside linebackers in 2019, will now coach the defensive line. Brawley Evans, who has served as an analyst on the Terps staff for the past four seasons, has been promoted to outside linebackers coach.

“We’re extremely excited to promote Brawley to an on-field coaching role,” said Locksley. “He’s been a key part of the Terps staff the past four years and has earned this opportunity. Brawley has exceptional relationships with our current players and is extremely well respected in the DMV area. I’m really pleased with our coaching staff heading into the 2020 season.”

Evans began his second stint at Maryland in 2016 after spending two season as the defensive backs coach/recruiting coordinator at Morgan State. Prior to his time on the Bears staff, Evans was a graduate assistant coach at Maryland from 2012-13. He assisted the Terps defensive coaches, working primarily with the linebackers, and assisted in recruiting and scouting opponents.

Prior to Maryland, Evans was the defensive backs coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. During his four-year tenure, the Falcons won three straight WCAC championships and ranked nationally in USA Today (2009, 2010 and 2011). His first coaching position came as head junior varsity coach and offensive coordinator at Baltimore Lutheran School in 2008.

Before pursuing a career in coaching, Evans spent two years as an all-conference running back at West Liberty State in West Virginia. He also gained all-conference honors at Southwestern Junior College in Chula Vista, California.

The Baltimore native, Evans attended Dundalk High School where he was an all-state running back for the Owls.

Locksley also announced that Matt Robinson (’14), who served as a graduate assistant in 2019, has been promoted to Quality Control Analyst.

Deon Jones has entered the transfer portal.

There goes another member of the 2017 recruiting class that ranked #18 in the country. 24-7 rated Jones as the 2nd best player in the class, after McFarland.

I mostly approve of giving players more freedom to move while they still have eligibility, but when you have a lot of coaching turnover, you can't really expect many of your inherited players to stick around anymore. Despite only entering his second season as head coach, this will become "Locksley's team" pretty quickly.

QB Tyler DeSue has decided to retire from football. With just 2 scholarship quarterbacks left on the roster, depth at this position just became a massive concern.

Wow, that's a bit of a shocker.  Hope DeSue is OK.

From his social media post, it sounds like his heart just wasn't in football anymore. Says he's staying at UM to finish his degree.

They were already probably going to try and get a transfer QB off the portal. Guess they need to make it two. (or maybe three....this is Maryland, after all)

There doesn't look like much available out there right now that would be a good fit, but typically the transfer market heats up after spring practices, so I suspect we'll be hearing a lot then, if not sooner.

Maryland announces that Spring Practice will begin on March 24, and conclude with the annual Red-White Spring Game on Maryland Day (April 25) at Noon. That game will be broadcast live on BTN.

Cory Robinson is leaving UM to take the job of DBs coach with the Saints. Huge blow to recruiting for the Terps, especially in the Baltimore area.

The Big Ten just announced that they've suspended all organized team activities until April 6th. This means that the start of Maryland's spring football practice will be delayed by at least two weeks.

Former Florida State DB A.J. Lytton entered the transfer portal in February, and rumors say that Maryland will be the landing spot for him. It's a natural choice as he went to Wise HS, and would be a major pickup for Locksley as a former 4-star recruit. He was the 3rd-best recruit from the state in the 2018 class, and the 7th-best cornerback nationally. He has the ability to play a number of different positions in the secondary.

Former D-III quarterback Evan Lewandowski has announced that he'll be transferring to Maryland. He played two seasons at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and was the team's starter last season. He completed 55% of his passes for 2,804 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He set a program record by throwing for 591 yards and 9 touchdowns in one game in October. That touchdown mark tied a D-III record.

He'll have to sit out for one season, and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2021.

Not that it's a surprise to anyone, but Mike Locksley had Dwayne Haskins on his Instagram Live show tonight and Haskins confirmed that he would've been a Terrapin if Locksley had become the head coach in 2016. I also know for a fact that Chase Young would've joined him in that class. I don't necessarily think that the DJ Durkin hire wasn't the right one even in hindsight, it's just crazy to think about what could've been.
