As for stolen bases, teams went 21 for 23 on those. That works out to 1.53 attempts per game. Last season, teams attempted 0.67 stolen bases per game. If the first day of the year was any indication, teams are going to be far more aggressive thanks to the bigger bases and the limited number of "disengagement" that pitchers are afforded per plate appearance.

Orioles were obviously a big part of it. Feel like if you had to pick anything from yesterday that seems like it has a real chance at being sustainable with this team, this would be it.

Speed might be a big tool again! The rule changes might be a real positive all in all.

I like the return of the stolen base and I think it could be a real weapon for the Orioles.  Mullins and Mateo are plus, plus baserunners and I think others like Frazier and Mckenna could be used to jumpstart the offense.  Maybe Gunnar too.

The new rules all seem to favor the offense.

I didn't watch much of the game yesterday but what I did see was enjoyable as far as the pitch clock went.  So refreshing to see successive pitches coming at that pace.  Reminded me of how it used to be when I was a kid.  Eliminating the extreme shift should help offenses too.  Never could understand why hitters didn't take advantage of the shifting but I guess it wasn't macho enough to lay down a bunt where there was no fielder or slap one to the opposite field.

....said this a lot since the changes, but it's going to be a return to athleticism for The Game.

Defense.  SB attempts. Even the pitch clock is going to force pitchers to be more athletic to keep up the pace.

Speed specifically can be used as a weapon more now.  Harder to hold.  Pitchers have to change the way they've done things.  Catchers have to be more athletic. You still have to find yourself on 1B, but if your team can't hold a runner, everyone is going to go.  CS will go up, but that's because more people that probably shouldn't be trying it are going to be more bold.

Did the Boston catcher attempt to throw on any of the attempts?

I don't think he did. For various reasons, I think each had an insurmountable jump.

I'd be very curious to know how many days in past seasons this number has been reached. One day of games doubling the past average steals per game might be meaningful or could just be something that happens from time to time.

Definitely think we'll get more steal attempts. But twice as many is a much bigger increase than I would expect.
