Following their blowout win over Minnesota, Maryland will hit the road again to face off against Michigan State on Tuesday night. The Spartans currently hold a record of 14-9 (6-6), and have lost five of their last seven games. Like the Terps, most of their struggles have come on the road. Tom Izzo's squad has lost just two games at home all year.

Michigan State is led by a trio of guards Tyson Walker and A.J. Hoggard, and forward Joey Hauser. All are averaging double-digit scoring this season. Forward Malik Hall has missed some time due to various injuries, but is currently healthy and averaging starter minutes. As is typically the case for an Izzo-coached team, the Spartans are led by their excellent defense.

Maryland lost all three of their matchups against Michigan State last season. The last time they beat them in East Lansing came in 2020.

Sounds like Maryland actually won’t return home before this game. They’re still in Minnesota, and were at the Timberwolves game tonight.

Yeah I was wondering about that.  Didn't make sense to come home, then go right back out there.

A win against Sparty would really give some breathing room in terms of NCAA tourney hopes.

I see Lunardi has Michigan State as a 7 seed, and MD as a 10.
Road w vs. a quality team would be nice.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, it's a Quad 1 win for either side. Maryland is 28th in NET, Michigan St. 42nd.

Lunardi has them both as #8 seeds at the moment. This was as of 2/3 - Maryland beat Minnesota on the road since then, Michigan St. lost @ Rutgers.

Yep, must've been looking at an older version.

Maryland received 12 votes in this week's AP Poll, effectively ranking them #34 in the country.

I think if they can find a way to win At MSU and hold serve at home against a decent Penn State team, I think they get back to the top 25 and solidify themselves as a tournament team.  Easier said then done though.

Minnesota has a Covid outbreak on their roster, so their game against Illinois tomorrow has been postponed. Something to keep an eye on with Maryland given they just played them Saturday night.

I have no clue what the protocols are anymore in 2023 but I would at least hope everyone on the team was tested

Explains Minnesota not wanting to get within 15 feet defensively that game.

I saw that, and have to wonder if Maryland has a problem coming.  I am sure they will all be tested, before tonight's game.

Eh, make sure Michigan State knows, cough a lot right before the opening tip... might help make more space in the lane...

BPI gives MD the edge by .3 points.

Watch it be a blowout, lol. (Hopefully in the Terps favor)

Looking forward to this one a lot (like many).  Not even super concerned about the W vs L, but more to see how they compete in a second straight road game and against a good team.  I know MSU has struggled a hair lately, but it doesn't change my perception of Izzo and how his teams tend to get better towards the end of the season.  Feels like under the previous Terps regime, this team would have won by 8 to 10 at MIN the other night, and would lose by 15-20 tonight.  Willard's mojo worked a never-in-doubt blow out, curious to see how they follow that up!

If they shoot well, I think they'll win.  If they shoot poorly, I think they'll lose.

My further analysis is behind a paywall.

A couple years ago, the blueprint to beating Michigan State was to focus on getting back defensively in transition and force them to run half-court offensive sets. Turgeon's team executed that plan to perfection, and they beat the Spartans both times they played each other that season. This season though, the Spartans' best offense comes when they're in their half court so definitely a different gameplan.
