Elias, " Its very possible to sign another major league free agent."  If we do, it almost has to be a bat or maybe a relief pitcher.

Is Profar ready to take a one year deal?

Zero interest in Profar.

He is a versatile player and a switch hitter.  I do not think the Orioles are that interested, but he would help the lineup.

Profar seems nearly identical to Frazier to me. Don't see the need for both (or either, really). Yeah both are passable options for 2B or LF, but we had passable options already, what we need are clear upgrades.

We are not getting any clear upgrades at this point unless it is a trade.

At this point, I am okay with going forward with what we have.  The growth in the lineup is going to have to come from Adley, Gunnar and Stowers.  I think we will see better numbers from Mountcastle and maybe Hays.  I do think the wall really hurt both last year, so maybe they can adjust some.

I guess I'd take Profar on the roster over McKenna since Profar should be able to play CF when Mullins needs a day off (or if they do the same stupid platooning as last year).  But I also don't think he really does a whole lot to improve the team aside from buying down some of Hays' performance risk.  Zero upside with Profar, much like Frazier. Best case is slightly above average regular.

Interesting he said FA. Not a trade. I  mean doesnt necessarily mean anything but  the only FA bat out there is Profar

I don't have a list, but probably lots of guys available that wouldn't be starters but maybe could replace McKenna on the roster.  Hays may now be too limited defensively to be the backup option in CF any longer.  I can't say that I noticed it watching him in LF, but his defensive advanced stats slipped a bit last season, for whatever that's worse.

I think McKenna is fine as a 5th OF though, so don't really see the need to improve that spot.

"Mike Elias said this morning the Orioles will stretch out 12 pitchers as starters this spring, including DL Hall. They’ve discussed a six-man rotation but are thinking five for now. Elias offered the early part of July as a potential return point for John Means."

Sounds good.

"Mike Elias said the Orioles are still considering other moves, but “if we end up with this group, … we’re fine with that.”

He said their offseason moves “clicked off our exact wishlist,” saying they’ve “boosted and reinforced” the team’s internal talent."

Vomit emoji.

"Also, for those curious how to refer to the state of the Orioles’ process, “Our rebuild is behind us,” Mike Elias said, and Brandon Hyde described this as the first spring they are in “true non-rebuild mode.”

I wish their actions backed this up.

Its obvious they arent rebuilding. You can continue to cry in your wheaties they didnt do more in FA but they clearly arent still rebuilding and doing things rebuilding teams do.

He said they were still having trade talks with teams and that will continue up to and during spring training at the thing in Bel Air last night.

Oh and he said “hey, I know you” when I asked my question at the Q&A and I blushed so hard OMG. At least it made me cooler in my sons eyes lol.

As far as the SP that all makes sense. Only Irvin and Gibson are stretched out to throw 160+ innings this year.

You got Kremer, Bradish, GRod, Hall, Wells, Voth, Those are all deserving options to be in the rotation or top prospects that are going to be given a chance to stay in the rotation. IM sure they will have their AAA guys stretched out and ready to come to Baltimore if necessary too. Watkins, Zimmermann, Vallimont , Rom, etc. The top 8 guys though are all guys who could start games in Baltimore early in the year.

Yea, I don't disagree, I was just thinking anyone still on the market is probably ready for a one year deal, which is where the Orioles live.  i looked over the list of remaining free agents and I do not see anyone who I think is better than what we have.  Maybe take a flier on a LH reliever.  Zack Britton, Brad Hand or Will Smith are out there.

They operated in a pretty similar way to how they've been operating other than one trade for a backend starter that they probably would have been into last year too given the team control involved. Add in what they did in July and their actions don't strongly support this shift in mentality.

It will be interesting if they really do sign another RP. Im not against it by any means but the 13 ML spots on the staff are already pretty tight. I personally dont mind if they move away from a guy like AKin but it remains to be seen if they actually do that.

I won't be convinced until August that they aren't in tearing down mode still. That's the mode they were in seven months ago. The building should have began this offseason. It didn't at all. They replaced anything they lost plus Cole Irvin.

"Offseason moves checked off their exact wishlist." So they did not make those competitive offers to better players. They got exactly who they wanted. Great. I'm sure the bidding war for Adam Frazier was intense.

"First spring they are in non-rebuild mode". I don't think Hyde or Elias know what the term means. If you aren't rebuilding something anymore, then you think it's complete. If this is their idea of complete, GTFO here and go to Nashville. I couldn't care less now that I reside in an actual baseball city. Something those idiots think Baltimore is when it definitely is not.
