Manager Brandon Hyde might prefer to break up his right-handers rather than stack four in a row. Or maybe he doesn’t care and it just comes down to which pitchers earn the highest slots.

Someone tell Roch that in a 5 man rotation, if you only have one left hander, you always have 4 righties in a row.

The only question now is Tyler Wells.  They made him a starter last year and he was pretty good in the role.

I think the projection today has to be....

Gibson

Irvin

TWells

Bradish

Kremer

and you'll have GRod and Hall in AAA managing innings early waiting for whatever opportunities and Means coming back in July.

Roch can’t think past the first week of the season.

Assuming health which is a big assumption, the only question is if GRod breaks camp in the Os rotation or if its Wells. Dont think Hall is really in play and Irvin, Gibson, Kremer, Bradish are locks.

Apparently simple progression isn't Roch's strong suit....lol

Now to be fair his comment is correct at least once each season.

My point wasn't to start bashing Roch.

If you want to break up RHers in your rotation (I typically do) then you need a second LHer.

Personally, I think the variance in handedness and pitching styles can be important to the success of a rotation.  If all of your pitchers are working a similar mix, velocity, etc, then hitters can set up for that profile and stay more comfortable.  Knuckleballers were always kind of the extreme for messing with a guys swing, but building variance, imo, is a useful thing.

Sure, just have 5 great pitchers then who cares, but nobody is really there, so do everything you can.  Keep the hitters adjusting day-to-day.
