The Kevin Warren to Chicago Bears talk was more than just a negotiating ploy for an extension from the Big Ten (or a ploy that did not work). His brief legacy as commissioner will be a mixed one. He definitely leaves the B1G bigger, and wealthier, than he found it.

But he definitely rubbed some people the wrong way when he jumped on cancelling football in 2020, as well as when he continued to talk about more expansion after adding the LA schools, even though it seems clear there's no appetite among the current members to add more (for the foreseeable future).

So where does the B1G go from here? Warren came from the NFL, and with the new TV deal he definitely made Big Ten football on Saturdays look like an NFL Sunday experience. Does the conference go back and hire someone with a more traditional college background? Stick to more of a pro sports profile, with the expectation that revenue sport athletes may one day end up being paid to play, if not outright considered employees? Or go in a whole different direction like the Pac-12 and Big-12 did by hiring someone with more of an entertainment/gambling background?

IMO, they should go in the direction of hiring someone that will do what's necessary to kill of the Pac 12 and ACC.

Big Ten at 16 with USC and UCLA.

Still think they should be doing everything to add Notre Dame, UNC, Virginia, Oregon, Washington, NCST, California, Stanford.

4 Divisions of 6:

D1:
Maryland
UNC

UVA
Penn State
Rutgers
NCST

D2:
Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Indiana
Illinois
Notre Dame

D3:

Iowa

Minnesota

Purdue
Nebraska
Northwestern
Wisconsin

D4:
UCLA
USC
Oregon
Washington
Cal

Stanford

It's definitely been speculated that's the future of college sports....all the biggest brands under an umbrella of a couple conferences, while geography still wins out in a way because you divide them into larger, location-based divisions.

With the ACC, you're still looking at another 13 years before you can get there with the GOR, as I'm not sure a suitable solution has been proposed that gets around it, or at least mitigates the impact of leaving early.

And while the Pac-12 schools might be able to leave again at the end of the decade (we should have an answer on that pretty soon), with playoff expansion that all but guarantees their champion gets in, will schools like Oregon and Washington want to leave that for what would be far lesser CFP prospects in the Big Ten?

I think for now the Big Ten might want a commissioner whose background will be focused on the more immediate issues; like NIL, integrating/monetizing betting, and potentially negotiating with players on revenue sharing and other well-being issues.

One other notable tidbit on Warren and his soon-to-be successor....of the 14 current Big Ten members, 12 have changed presidents/chancellors since Warren was hired in 2020.

This is very interesting. Looking back at the recruiting rankings of players named to the NFLPA All-Pro Team this season, the average ranking of defensive players was 4.5 stars. Meanwhile, the average ranking of offensive players was just 2 stars. Furthermore, no offensive player was a 5-star recruit and only one was a 4-star.

In other recruiting news, Deion Sanders flipped CB Cormani McClain, who had been committed to Miami. McClain is widely regarded as the #1 CB in the 2023 class, so if he does sign with Colorado next month, it will be the second straight year Sanders has landed the #1 CB in the nation (he got Travis Hunter to Jackson St last year, and Hunter has since transferred to Colorado).

So the latest at Michigan is that Harbaugh and the AD are at odds, but the president is all in on giving Jim an extension. Meanwhile, Jim refuses to admit to the NCAA that he lied about a couple minor violations, which in itself is a major violation that could get him suspended. And now, co-OC and former Ravens assistant Matt Weiss has been fired due to being under investigation for computer theft.

But other than that….

There is no need for them to continue to stop the clock on first down -- if you want to keep it under 2 mins that's fine; but no more noon games ending after 4 pm

NCAA Football Rules Committee proposes starting this season, game clock won’t be stopped after a 1st down except for final 2 minutes of each half. Teams also won’t be able to call consecutive time outs. NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel will vote April 20 to make these official

Example #167 of the Deion Effect:

ESPN will air only one team's spring game this year; Colorado, who were 1-11 last season. Two-time defending national champion Georgia will have their spring game on ESPN2. Everyone else will be either conference networks or ESPN+.

I’ll definitely smoke to that if passed. Or even if it isn’t probably.
