Seems like a good thread to once again lament the loss of Rub, probably about a decade ago now. Reopen the joint, Mike!

Pit beef is a different thing than BBQ, but Chap's is my favorite place on this list. Andy Nelson's is second and is very good. Don't think I've been to any of the others except for Mission. If pit beef is on the list, then any of the random Chicken BBQ stands on the Eastern Shore also should be, always super happy to find one open if I'm driving downee ocean.

I haven't mastered pork ribs, but I'd put my brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken up against any of the public joints in the area. I cheat a bit with sous vide.

There's a great place in between Reisterstown and Hampstead right on Route 30 called "Char'd" that should be on this list.  Just a little stand inside of Farmer Stan's nursery.  Great brisket and pulled pork.

Never actually been a huge fan of Andy Nelson's.  Feel like the meet is always too dry.

And I know it loses points because it's a chain but I still think Mission BBQ is fantastic.  They're opening one up right by my work which will be terrible for both my wallet and waistline.

Glad to see The Smoking Swine on the list - that place is awesome.

I was sorry that Pioneer Pit Beef wasn't on the list, because that place is also awesome.  It's just a little shack way north on Rolling Road, almost under I-70.

And 2Fifty BBQ, near College Park, is definitely my favorite local BBQ place.  Maybe that's too far away to be eligible for Baltimore Magazine's list.

I agree, huge fan of Mission BBQ. I like their black plate specials and they change every couple of months. Their espresso rubbed rib-eye is the best $11 steak, I have ever had. You can cut it with a plastic knife.

The Canopy in Ellicott City is very good and there is a shack over in Odenton next to Ace Hardware that is great, sorry, the name escapes me.

I've been to a new BBQ place a few times, and I think it's great - Bark BBQ, in Stevensville, MD, just across the Bay Bridge.  It's in an office park, next to Paul Reed Smith Guitars, which is kind of a weird setting, but they have a nice outdoor patio, and a huge wood smoker in the parking lot.  Definitely worth checking out, although it may get tricky at times in the summer, when the exits on Route 50 are closed.

I think 2Fifty is still the best in the area, but Bark is close.
