First of all, good read. I love this debate. I want to start with the last paragraph, where you referred to the HOF as a museum, and commented that museums should tell the whole story. I don't see it the same way. Museums do attempt to tell the whole story. Cooperstown is an honor of the highest order in Baseball. I'll go with the low hanging fruit in this comparison, Hitler and Nazism can be found in museums, but not because we're honoring him or that mindset. But because it happened, and learning about it may be our best defense against ever seeing such a thing happen again.

I really dislike the comparison of PEDs to greenies. Speeders may make a fatigued player more lively, but it isn't going to make a player faster or stronger, or allow unnatural muscle mass increases.

As a voter, wrestling with this subject is the responsibility that comes with their ability to vote. Some people don't care about anyone using PEDs, others are vehemently against those players being honored with entry into the Hall. That's the fun of the debate.

As for the history of the game, and the presence of severely flawed characters already enshrined, I consider that to be just another example of how a player is supposed to be considered for the Hall, based on the era they played in. (Another low hanging fruit example) By all accounts, Ty Cobb was a horrible human being who was despised by almost everyone who played with him. but not a single one of those teammates wanted to play a game without him in the line up. They hated the man, but loved the player. Kirby Puckett is a great example. If he was being considered during the "Me Too" era, he may not have been enshrined. But he played and was voted in because domestic violence was still taking advantage of the blind eye being turned.

My guess is that most voters aren't taking on the role of morality police as it relates to the whole human experience. More likely, they're focusing their standards on how the player acted within the professional setting of the sport.

The bitter writers are probably already trading notes and formulating arguments for why it's ok for David Ortiz and his positive test to be inducted but Clemens and Bonds must remain out.

Being a media darling is a plus.
