O's acquire 1B/LF Efren Navarro, whose entire career seems to be a PCL illusion, for cash and DFA Hoes.

Freaking dumpster diving at its best. I wondered why they traded for Hoes? And now all they did was DFA him. Really clueless as to what this does to improve the club. Defensive replacement perhaps but the guy can't hit MLB pitching.

At least he has an option.

But they trade cash for Hoes, then DFA him....odd for a team on a budget. Then again they just gave Davis a Brinks truck, so maybe they are done crying poor.

People are mad at this why?

Incredibly small moves like this, likely mostly for minor league depth, whether they be good or bad or the player promising or not, have nothing to do with why they are or are not making bigger moves.

They didn't miss out on some great free agent or a trade for a good RF because they spent the entire blizzard dedicated to working out a deal for whoever this guy is.

It's the same reaction every fucking time Mackus. People just want to be angry. I mean I think I have a bias towards the guy we already know, but to get indignant and angry about "dumpster diving?" Give me a fucking break.

So far only one person has really shown anger.

You know, for the record.

I think a lot more angst would be warranted if we hadn't just signed Davis and he had gone elsewhere.

For the record, My "Oh Jesus Christ" post was in jest...I don't know who this guy is, but we seem to find guys like this who typically add depth to our minor league system, can be a Quad-A player potentially, and who knows? However, its more because we have not done shit to address our starting rotation.

For depth/MiL reasons, its fine.

If there is thought of him getting real playing time at the majors, that's an issue.

BTW, saw a comment on MLBTR about him and he seemed to be a guy fans like.  Guy also said he is a capable defensive first baseman.  OTOH, it was just one comment by someone, so who the hell knows but thought I would pass it along.

He really has the most bland, boring comments on everything. He probably said the same thing when we re-signed Davis.

The issue I have is that they went and got Hoes for the same reasons as this guy. Depth and some upside perhaps. But it just makes no sense in this case since they turned around and dumped Hoes. So what was the point of bringing him back? Why should we think this is any different? And so what he can play first base. What does another guy who can play first base do for either the O's or AAA? Between Trumbo, Davis, Mancini, and Walker what more depth do they need.

The only way I could see this is if they really think this guy can hit and they put Davis in RF, Trumbo at DH, and this guy at 1B. And since he apparently can't hit MLB pitching I don't get it.

Guy is a AAAA bat that plays 1B.  He's also LHed among a group of RHers

Hopefully, this is a move for depth because the Orioles have Walker or Mancini on the move for something.
