The Orioles also landed Drew Jackson from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for international signing bonus slot money, after the Phillies chose Jackson from the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 13th-overall pick in the major league phase.

Jackson was drafted in the fifth round by the Seattle Mariners in 2015 and later included in a 2017 trade with the Dodgers. He spent last season at Double-A Tulsa and has batted .269/.360/.399 over 384 career games while stealing 106 bases. On defense, Jackson has primarily been a middle infielder, but has professional experience at third base and in the outfield.

Like Martin, Jackson adds to the Orioles middle-infield options. He is also under Rule 5 stipulations that require him to be offered back to his original organization unless the club chooses to keep him on its 25-man roster all season.

Jackson played in the Dodgers system last year, acquired by the Orioles during the Rule 5 Draft in a draft-and-swap move with the Phillies. Philadelphia technically selected Jackson in the Major League Phase, sending him to Baltimore shortly thereafter for future considerations. The athletic middle infielder is coming off his best season as a professional, having slashed .251/.356/.447 in the Texas League. His improvements at the plate centered around an increased focus on lift and power, as Jackson’s home run totals spiked accordingly with a jump in aerial contact. He has the speed to steal bases and is athletic enough to move around the field, able to occasionally fill in around the outfield while shuttling mostly between 2B and SS. There are plenty of spots on Baltimore’s roster, so Jackson has a good chance to stick as a Rule 5 player with defensive versatility that plays in a bench role.

Started in CF today.  Hyde saying he's going to play a lot, and play everywhere.

DFA to make room for Straily - that's kind of a surprise.

Very surprised if he is indeed the move. (Only doubt is that a high schooler is the only one reporting this part as of now.)

Yeah same...I thought he had a lot of potential. More than we've got normally. But I guess if they only saw him as an OF, and we have a ton of those I get it. If something were to happen to Martin we will be kicking ourselves though.

I wonder if they’ll try to work out a deal to keep him in the system.

Hope so. After seeing them do it with the Cubs it gives me hope. We are REALLY thin at SS.

I hope.

I think they felt like they could not carry Martin and Jackson, because of the pitching, but I hate to see the kid go.
