2002 Douglass Ducks with Tyler Smith (Colorado State), Joey Dorsey (Memphis) and Gerald Brown (Providence/Loyola, MD). Brown is one of the best players I’ve ever seen play from Baltimore. He was unstoppable!

I wasn’t in the area during those times, never seen that Douglass team. Know all of those kids though, and have seen them play otherwise. Not better talent than the 1992 Dunbar team with Bright, Lloyd, Booth and kids like Diego Jones. I would say Tyler Smith was the best player from that Douglass team, and he couldn’t do anything with Lloyd.

I would personally say the 1991 Dunbar team was better than 92’, when they also had Scooter Alexander on the team. That team got hosed by St. Anthony’s in New Jersey by one, was told by everybody there the refs did everything they could to let St. Anthony win that game. Those are the best teams I’ve ever seen in person.

Hard to say who was the best Gilman team ever. Will say this, this Gilman team is the deepest ever in school history. Don’t think they’re the best.

If they’re so deep, why do you get mad at the coach for playing so many players?

BSL Chris Stoner asked for teams in different eras. The 2002 Douglass team went 29-0 and won the 3A State championship.

Smith was their best player in the 2001-02 season but that didn’t translate to college. He was good enough to play at DePaul & Colorado State, however Dorsey had a better college career and a long NBA & European basketball career.

I still stand by my claim about Gerald Brown. Saw him play in HS & college and he was an assassin on the court. He could shoot from deep 3 pt range, take it off the dribble, sky to the rim, slam the ball home and also shoot well from the stripe.

MSJ has several teams that can be called best of the 2010s. The 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2016-17 Gaels come to mind. Great players like Phil Booth (Villanova), Kam Williams (Ohio State), Jordan McNeil (Towson) & Jaylen Adams (St. Bonaventure/Atlanta Hawks) in the early to mid part of the decade. You can list Darryl Morsell (Maryland), Jalen Smith (Maryland) and James Bishop (LSU) in the later part of this decade.

I get mad at the coach for playing 11 players IN THE FIRST QUARTER!! Every game this year, he has played 11 players by the start of the second quarter. Basketball is too much of a rhythm game to play that many kids l, that early. I don’t think you should play more than 9 kids in a competitive high school game( barring foul trouble). Some kids will have to just have their feelings hurt.

Calvert Hall’s ‘80-‘81 team was an all-time great team. They beat Dunbar in 3OT at the old Towson Center. They call that the greatest HS game ever played in this area. That team had SO 6’7” F Paul Kinney who was a college prospect and died from a heart attack during a preseason game against Parkville that year.

I also enjoyed watching the 2014-15 Calvert Hall Cardinals Team which went 30-7 and won the Baltimore Catholic League and MIAA titles. They feature Drew Edwards (Providence), Nico Clareth (Siena/Nicholls State), Brendan Adams (UCONN), Evan Phoenix (C. Connecticut State/Gannon) and Justin Gorham (Towson/Houston).

Here’s a link about Gorham:

Monroe was a monster! I’d put Mark Karcher in that category. He and Juan Dixon has some epic shootouts in the BCL/MIAA.

Had totally forgot about Karcher; yeah he dominated the area. Had some good years at Temple, then I think a fairly long pro career in Europe.
