MSJ lost to Spalding. Spalding tied with GC. CHC lost their senior QB two weeks before. CHC held MSJ to no TDs in the second half. With the Sr QB, CHC would’ve won without a doubt.

Same logic CHC lost by 14 to MSJ with QB or not would not have made a difference. If you saw it live you would agree. Spalding lost to CHC twice by 14 and 21 I believe. MSJ lost by 3 to Spalding. MSJ would be on top. Or CHC for beating Spalding twice then MSJ. Either is plausible. IMO

I spoke to a coach at CHC earlier tonight. The SR QB being out and an inexperienced backup played a part but the near running clock shutout the previous year had a lot to do with it. CHC’s players thought the refs could place the ball at the 50 yd line and they would run away with the game with little effort. They were reading their own press clippings. That game is the reason why CHC ran the table after that. It got the Cardinals focused.

I also have a problem with a 6-4 Good Counsel and a 7-3 team being ranked in the Top 25. Everybody else had anywhere from 9-13 wins.

You are what your record is.

Why penalize a good team that beat everyone in front of them and elevate Good Counsel who couldn’t get it done?

If ‘Bama, Oklahoma & Clemson has 4 losses, UCF would finish the season ranked higher. Those blue bloods would also finish outside the Top 25. The State Poll is a joke!

Does anyone really think Oakdale beats GC, MSJ, CHC or Spalding. I watched Oakdale and they are well coached, good size lines, not overly athletic. Just don’t think they compete with those teams.

Oakdale being ranked that high along with a 4 loss GC team is absolutely fraudulent I have to believe the voters have kids or family members associated with that team

GC absolutely belongs at 4. Strength of schedule. All 4 losses were to nationally ranked teams. I’d take GC over CHC MSJ and Spalding all day long. GC played awful vs Spalding and still tied.

Avalon had CHC beat if it wasn’t for last minute field goal. Dematha beat Avalon by 50 points. WCAC is different level.

Avalon would beat Oakdale by 2 scores. MSJ & CHC would put 40 each on Oakdale.

GC had one good win. Gonzaga and tied with Spalding. If you went to the Gonzaga game, two pick sixes was the turning point. 4 losses.

SOS is irrelevant unless another team in the rankings has the same record. Take UCLA & FSU. If the Bruins and the Seminoles has the same record and were fighting to finish higher in the College Football playoff rankings, SOS would matter. Neither team had a great season so neither are in the final regular season AP or Coaches’ Top 25 polls. GC should be the same. The local rankings have also included mediocre Gilman & McDonogh teams in the last few seasons. You can take these rankings with a grain of salt they’re so ridiculous at times.

I realize the poll is more or less just a conversation piece and doesn't amount to much of anything but my biggest complaint is it tries to do too much. I understand wanting a state wide poll but we are really comparing apples and oranges here, should 1A Fort Hill be compared to national contender DeMatha or St. Frances? No, of course not, it would be like ranking Alabama and Mount Union in the same poll both are dominant at their level but of course Alabama would beat Mount Union by 50+. I would much rather see individual state polls done for 1A-4A and Privates. I know the comparisons would always exist between publics and privates but this poll does nothing to help that discussion anyway
