Chris no offense not filtering thru 28 pages. I tried going to the Durkin thread and it put me on page one several times. This is a HS thread anyway not relevant to the average college fan who is not that interested in HS sports.

How does this effect MD recruiting going forward? Has to hurt bad and could be a disaster. IMO

Discussion on MD recruiting should still be in the Terps section, not the HS section... and there are several recruiting threads.

Since that was locked we will try this?

Which college now has the leg up since IMO U of MD is going to struggle to overcome this?

I think Penn St (for top recruits) & Delaware ( for recruits on the bubble)

This thread is fine for general HS Recruiting. If the posting is UMD specific, that discussion should be in the MD Football section. That's why the other thread was locked.

In-terms of who benefits if MD struggles to recruit....  MD's primary recruiting grounds are DC, NOVA, Baltimore, Southern PA, etc....  the teams they often compete against are Penn State, West Virginia, UVA, Virginia Tech, sometimes Pittsburgh...   possible those schools are able to make further in-roads.

Obviously part of the back-to-back Top 30 classes for MD, was MD pushing the 'DMV to UMD' line... trying to do what they could to keep kids home.

Of course not just those regional powers above, but all the National powers are also already always coming to DC / Baltimore to recruit. So, it will be that much harder for MD to keep kids home.

They did a good job in the past couple of years keeping kids home. Many of their starters that I've seen on Saturdays went to high schools around this area. Despite the controversy, I think they could keep kids home. It really depends on wether they get Bryan Breese or not, him signing to MD could change local recruiting for a long time

I wish the Sun had done this when a-holes wanted to talk about anything other than HS sports. I hope that talking about offers, visits and commitments of kids currently in HS is ok. But I think that talking specifically about Maryland recruiting should be done on the Maryland Terps Message Board. It ain’t aerospace engineering.

Personally as a coach I don’t get involved players today unless they specifically asked my opinion if they did and they had good options other than Maryland I would have to at this point encourage them to go elsewhere

As the dad of current player who is being actively recruited, by several of the out of state schools listed above, Maryland is not a consideration. I do believe Durkin will adjust his approach, but the damage is done. They will never compete in the BIG10 with the athletic dept. being incompetent. Sad. Penn ST will be the big dog in the area moving forward for the Tier 1 recruits. VA TECH a factor as well. Syracuse emerging as well.

Penn State had a huge issue if everyone seems to forget and they are back strong

Fair point. Penn St history and support for program on a broad basis allowed for the comeback with the right guy in charge, Franklin. Maryland however, lacks that program pedigree and a burning desire from alumni and small fan base to overcome football obstacles. AD won't take them there. Who they hire as President, and his/her approach to athletics will tell whether or not this program ever gets out of the BIG10 cellar.

Very true. And apathy exists at the player level. Coach talks a good game like he wants to catch up. Tough to shake the "soft" mantle a program can pick up when things don't go well. MIAA is much stronger and better with a good Loyola product.

Before they let Durkin back. I was sure that being open to Maryland was an ok thing for a family I coach or advise. But this move essentially makes me willfully give my advice on schools. I give families my opinion on schools because I think it matters and Maryland is a school I wouldn't push them to. I have some others as well, but Maryland is definitely a "pass". If a kid has a Maryland offer, he has other offers.

If the new coach gets any help from the administration I believe he can do good things. The senior heavy team 2 yrs ago was much better than record showed, head coach refused to listen to players on adjustments and gave them a ton of grief.
