Who are the guys (in any sport) that for a period of time were great (and you saw play).... but are now largely forgotten?

Maybe they only flashed, and didn't have HOF careers. Maybe they were just solid players overall...

One name that stands out to me is Juan Gonzalez.  I do think of him whenever the '93 Home Run Derby comes up, because his homer to the 3rd deck in LF was just as ridiculous as The Kid hitting the Warehouse....  but this was a guy that was a 2x MVP, 434 career homers...  and he generally seems to be forgotten overall.

The Blake Street Bombers.

I know that the stadium helped, but that entire lineup was off the effing charts.

Dean Palmer

Jay Buhner

Rod Strickland

I think Jamal Lewis qualifies. Played in the era of Tomlinson, Holmes, etc...but had the single-game record for 5 years, 2K rushing season, and still didn't seem to get the props he deserved.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Those are all good ones.   I'm with you that Jamal was never really recognized for the talent he was.

How about Josh Hamilton?  Got past his demons to post a couple of huge years... then quickly flamed out again.

Sean, since you brought up Jamal... how about his Super Bowl teammate Priest Holmes?

Holmes was a monster for the Chiefs.

And since I brought up the Chiefs and RBs.... the Nigerian Nightmare.... Christian Okoye. Okoye wasn't a great player, but he did have a huge season (nearly 1,500 yards).

I may throw some random names out as I go.

I will always remember Priest Holmes as the original fantasy football monster (when fantasy football completely took off).

How about Greg Vaughn? Kent Hrbek? John Olerud?

I get that they're well-remembered by Rockies fans and big MLB fans, but I feel like the insanity of that lineup got lost to time.

Tom Goodwin? For me, he's just a guy.

Phillips is interesting in that he was so versatile.  Had a couple of really solid years.  Long career. Never great though.

HoJo.... yep, some big years...

Conine is a good local example of someone you forget about.  Mr. Marlin.   Never great, but good example of solid+ production.

Ohh, I agree with you... was just adding the article for background.

Obviously Walker was a very talented guy.    The others were helped by the park, but those were crazy numbers.
