We all have to pay certain bills, taxes, etc...

What are some things that you have to spend money on that you believe to be excessive or dumb?

For example, do you wish your mortgage was less but feel your house has to be a certain size, so you have to deal with it?  Or, do you feel property taxes are excessive?  BGE screwing you, cable, cell phone, gas, etc....?

The main thing I hate paying is car insurance... not because I think I shouldn't have to pay it, but because I feel reamed by the price....

Health insurance ditto, but worse...

A fucking dehumidifier.  What a boring ass grownup purchase that offers zero excitement.

Everything

I kind of feel the same way.

I think any insurance is a screw job.  I don't mind paying it but it shouldn't cost what it does.

Property taxes are a joke.

Most taxes in general are way too excessive and poorly used but that's a different thread and not a topic to get into here.

I am kind of sick of paying a higher mortgage.  Whether I will do anything about it or not, I haven't decided but I have been thinking about how annoying it is to pay so much money to live in the house we are in.

I don't really mind paying for things I enjoy doing.

I hate buying anything brand new and I really have gotten away from that (meaning major purchases).

HOA fees, especially when you email them about something and they don't email back. Bitch I pay your salary! You work for me!

They are really annoying when they tell you that it pays for trash.  We get that anyway!

I had a deal fall through because of poor budgeting by the HOA and they wouldn't fix it.  Cost my client the house she wanted and cost me like $3300.

The one thing I will say is that there is a big visual difference between communities that do and do not have HOAs.

But I agree, it shouldn't be a battle to get responses from them.

(BTW, the HOA boards are usually volunteers, so you aren't "paying their salary")

Our HOA is run by a management company, and they manage several HOAs so we definitely are paying for their salaries, or a portion of it.

We get trash, common area lawn service and snow removal, of which the snow removal has been lacking lately. We pay more for communities that get all that and a pool. WTF?

They recently replaced all the sidewalks and tore up a good bit of my yard and never properly replaced it. Now I have a steep drop off on a small hill where weeds have taken over.

Fees at ATMs are my least favorite expense in the world, I avoid them as much as is humanly possible.

I also hate the fees charged by 3rd party food delivery services like Grubhub or Eat24 or UberEats, to the point that I never use them.  I'll drive to the restaurant myself over paying $6 for you to bring me some lukewarm food in 80 minutes.

When a cab/uber charges you $4 to go through the tunnel when I know damn well you're using an EZ Pass that only costs you $1.40.  That's still better than waiting in line to pay the toll in cash, though.

Ugh...Yea, that's annoying.

We have a prop management company too but the decision  making is our board.

I hate spending a lot of money on a meal that is gone in 20-30 minutes.

My son's haircuts.

I know that's dumb, but...I really wish that I learned to do that when I was younger.

His hair looks great, though, so I can't be too mad. Also, rite of passage and whatnot.

Also, water bills.

I think I'm going to need a new roof soon, which is a lot of money for something that you can barely see.

As an aside, I have to be one of the few people that looks at my monthly payout on the house and goes, "...yeah. That's about what I feel like I should be paying."

My mortgage is actually far less than what most people would be paying for my house.  But its like, do I really want to be spending that money on a house/living when I could be doing something else with that money?

#%@*! Comcast.

Specifically, internet service. The fact that they are the only land-based provider where I live, and thus my only choices are to pay them or go without (and doing what I do for a living being based at home, the latter is not really an option). The lack of any competition in this sector is un-American and just plain wrong. The service is unreliable (just last week I experienced two outages), relatively slow even when it is working, and IMO hideously overpriced. Add to it that the FCC has now given them permission to block or slow down content they don't want me to access for whatever reason they deem, and this might just be one of the worst rackets going right now.

They do have the worst internet.

Used to have it.  It would constantly go out.

Same.

Verizon is pretty crappy, but the internet never goes out intermittently...I'll give them that.
