The coloration is all messed up on mine. Its about 7-8 years old. Picture reset and manual adjustments aren't helping anything.

Currently I have a 37 inch Samsung 1080 LED, and its been all I need. 

Any advice?

Not looking to break the bank and I don't think I want to splurge on 4K or some super fancy smart TV. 

32 inch TVs are super cheap these days. Like 120 or so. I found my 43 after Christmas (someone returned it to amazon) for 175. I’d scour Walmart and Amazon. Best Buy too. You’ll find something cheap.

Don't write-off Vizio either, they started out junk but they have ramped up in a hurry.

If you're hunting good deals, nose around to find specific models that have been replaced by newer models that don't add anything you want/need.  TV prices are already famously cheap, and grabbing a model that's on its way out can drop it even further. 

Oh... and whatever you think is the right size, get one a few sizes bigger... you will be glad once you have it... (honest... no kidding...)

Agree with the advice to buy the biggest one you can fit in your space.  But consider how far away you view from.  No point in buying a TV that's too big for how far away your couch sits.

What are you doing for sound?  If you've got a decent sized room, that can be as important or more than the TV. 

If you're only looking for the TV-equivalent of an internet-browsing laptop, you can definitely find something in the 32-43" range for $150-300 if you're patient and wait for a deal.  You can get something pretty great for double that if you want something better but still well short of the really expensive 4K OLEDs that are top-of-the-line now but frankly are ahead of the source material in terms of technology.  Slickdeals.net is a great resource for tracking any good deals on TVs that pop up.

I'm a big fan of the picture on LG tvs.  I have both LGs and Samsung 4ks in my house and prefer the picture quality of the LG more.

TV's get really cheap around Thanksgiving, so if possible you might want to wait until then.  I was on the market for a TV last year, and I found out my company gave everyone access to the perksatwork.com website, which gives you a pretty decent discount on Samsung TV's (or at least it did last year).  So you should see if you have access to that.

There are lotsa ways to figure max screen size for a given viewing distance... here's one of them...

A typical 1080p television, the most common resolution offered, has about 2 million tiny pixels for any give screen size. Each of these lights up separately to create the mosaic that becomes your television image. (You can learn more about screen resolution here). Since the number of pixels remains constant regardless of screen size, a small screen will have pixels that are smaller and closer together, while a larger screen will have pixels that are bigger and have the potential to be more visible as you approach the screen.

How close is too close? Assuming your vision is average, for a "Full HD" set with 1080p resolution, your maximum screen size can be calculated as the viewing distance (in feet) multiplied by 7.7. For example, for a viewing distance of 8 feet, 8 x 7.7 = 61.6 inches, which would translate today to a 60-inch or 65-inch screen. Go too much bigger at that distance, and you’ll risk starting to see the pixels.

The best part is, if you're not going for the junky models they make specifically for Black Friday you don't have to really fight either.  I don't expect to have problems getting my TV because it's still expensive, it'll just be on super discount.

Don't even watch that much TV theses days, but I'm thinking of upgrading  my main TV. I currently have a "48 but I'm thinking of getting a 60-65 inch.  Samsung has been good to me and I"m looking at theirs again,  seen some decent ones for under a grand. I'm not in a rush though so I wonder if I should wait until Black Friday or even after Christmas.

Samsung has an employee discount program that lots of other companies are eligible for.  You should definitely check to see if the place where you work is eligible for the discount.

Not helpful to this recent bump, but my incredible Samsung plasma (F8500, last model they ever made) broke a couple weeks ago, wouldn't turn on at all.  I was able to follow some youtube videos and check out the power supply board (which had given me trouble in the past) with a multimeter and some jumper wires and determined that it was fine.  So I started replacing other boards one-by-one with used replacements I got on ebay.  Took until the third try (the Y-sustain and X-main boards were not the problem), but replacing the main board allowed it to fire right back up!

Duffman what's your budget?  Are you a AV snob looking for top of the line or just something nice?  Buying a decent TV is really easy and cheap as hell these days.  You gotta spend a bit more and put some effort in if you want something with absolutely superb picture (OLED or even QLED if money is no object), but you should be able to find a very good 4k LED 60-65" TV for $600-800 max and maybe a good bit less.

If I hadn't just saved my baby and was in the market, I would keep an eye on slickdeals.net for any good deals (frontpage currently has a 65" Vizio p-series for $1100) and then whenever the size I want pops up there, check out the reviews on avsforums.com of the exact model to know if it is the quality I'm looking for.
