6.John Calipari (Kentucky): 7 percent
7.Bob McKillop (Davidson): 5 percent
8.Bob Huggins (West Virginia): 5 percent

To me, the most underrated is Buzz Williams. I do not see how Self or Calipari can be on that list. I also think Dunphy is a bit of a stretch, as his teams perenially choke in the NCAA tournament.

For overrated, I think it's clearly Rick Barnes. Texas can get top-notch talent but that guy hasn't done anything in the tournament.

Not quite sure how Calipari/Self are considered "underrated" with all the Final Four appearances and a championship each. Likewise, I don't find Drew/Amaker "overrated" at all, look at their respective schools past. Bob Huggins I probably would've put in the overrated, not underrated category.

"I'll tell you this about Villanova and Jay Wright. In all our prep over the years, he's the only coach we never prepared a scouting report for."

OUCH!

No surprise to see Roy on the list although I do think he is a good coach.

Dunphy is an interesting choice. He does win a lot of games but does nothing in the tourney.

I think there are probably a lot of mid major coaches that are excellent but no one knows it...yet.

You know who i think is underrated? Mark Turgeon.

Because people just say that since they are at big colleges, the jersey recruits itself and its not hard to win with them..similar to what was said about Roy Williams.

I don't think Calipari is a great coach...but he is probably the best coach in the country at getting freshman to play together and put aside their egos.

I get that argument with coaching/managing that someone like Phil Jackson/Bobby Cox don't get the credit they deserve because they happen to be leading a team with amazing talent and managing those personalities is difficult. I just don't agree with in either of these cases. Self/Cal have been successful coaches wherever they've gone.

I'm not a Cal fan at all, but I think he's a good coach, but I completely agree with you on your statement of getting freshman to buy into his system.

Agree wholeheartedly with Roy Williams and Rick Barnes at the top for overrated. Barnes gets great recruiting classes and does nothing with them and Roy Williams just doesn't get nearly enough out of the immense talent he seems to always have. Yes, he's won national championships, but I think if you give Coach K that talent he'd have twice as many.

Oh for sure...There is no comp between Roy and K, although I am sure ND will come on here and pound his fist on the table at the atrocity of that statement...i just think few would agree with him.

I also agree about Barnes..way overrated.

No, actually. I think Roy is an amazing recruiter (I don't think it has everything to do with the name on the front of the jersey though - there are plenty of schools who you can say that about - recruiting is still tough among the elite of the elites, because Carolina is competing against Kentucky and dook and Syracuse and Kansas and UCLA for the top 10 players), but I don't think he's all that great a game coach. I think his teams are well coached and well prepared, but I have some serious issues with Roy as an in-game (and especially as an end-of-game) strategist.

That having been said, at least he's not a complete ratface douchebag like the bastard down the road in Durham.

I would think Calipari's knack for leaving town just as the NCAA starts investigating his programs would count as a mark against him. Whether that translates into him being overrated I guess is open for debate. I suppose it's all in an individual's perspective. If a couple Final Four appearances are worth several years of probation/rebuilding, then I suppose it doesn't matter.

Good thing Gary retired or he would def have made the overrated list. I think they did a good job here for the most part. Barnes, Wright, Howland, and Boehiem, and Lavin are certainly overrated while I can agree with Calapari and Huggins being underrated. My two biggest issues with this list is Self being underrated and Roy overrated

It counts against him from an ethical POV, not so much from a coach one. And definitely not from an overrated/underrated. Just ftr, I think he knew more(and maybe aided) in NCAA violations, but he hasn't been found guilty of any wrong doing.

I think he would've made the recent overrated lists. I've said this before, I look at his tenure as two different parts -- the championship and post-championship.

If cheating and getting caught, though not him specifically (though I also believe he knew) is how he wins, perhaps he is overrated.

Where's Seth to take up for Roy?

Gotta disagree with you there. Gary was UNDERRATED as an actual in-game coach, while he was overrated as an overall program manager, so to speak. He didn't care about recruiting, and that cost he and the program a lot of potential wins, if not tournament runs. I definitely agree with SG that Turg is underrated.

That having been said, at least he's not a complete ratface douchebag like the bastard down the road in Durham.

He might have been "underrated" pre-championship, but it's hard to say he was underrated after that when he couldn't get past the 2nd round and making the tournament wans't a given.

Disagree. He didn't have the talent, which was his choice... But he almost always got more out of less.

It's hard to be underrated when you aren't doing too well. You have to succeed to some degree to be "underrated," likewise you have to fail to some degree to be "overrated."

That's an over simplistic way to look at this IMO, but I do see your point, agree to disagree I guess.
