I haven't posted on my blog in awhile. Was busy with school and it just kind of went away for awhile. But now it's back! My first entry in a loooong time: http://www.mdprospor... ... -schrader/. I spoke with Frederick pitching coach Blaine Beatty about Mike Wright (promoted to Bowie), Kyle Simon and Clay Schrader. Lots of interesting stuff from Beatty here, including Wright dialing it up to 97, a comparison for Simon and why Schrader has struggled with command and control.

Thanks for the link Luke, good to see you back writing on the blog.

Like the comments on all 3. Glad the O's are just getting Simon time as a starter now to get him innings and experience.

Really interesting comments about Schrader. Answered the questions I've had. Even with the control issues, I'd still like to see him moved to Bowie.

We may not agree with Schrader still being at Frederick, but I think it's important to understand WHY he's still there. I think too often -- especially with social media -- it's "Team X is stupid, why isn't Player A at a higher level yet" or something to that effect. Sometimes all it takes is a phone call to get someone in the org to explain why something is happening the way it is. (Teams in the minors are typically very forthcoming in my experiences.) Kevin Goldstein has harped on this topic recently as I'm sure you know, Chris.

If the control issues are coming from the mechanics of his deliver I'd actually be ok with him working it out down there. Giving him one more thing to worry about at the hardest level in the minors really isn't the best development plan.

I worry that he's been "effectively wild" down there, and he'd be hammered at AA where hitters can lay off a hard, high FB. Once he figures out that landing, turn him loose up there and let him focus on pitching and not worrying about his landing on every pitch.
