It's not stopping Justin Timberlake from performing there. While you have a point there's still more limitations for an arena like Towson's IMO than the Baltimore Arena.

Couldn't they come up with a picture of a more full arena than the one they featured?

It's not stopping Justin Timberlake from performing there. While you have a point there's still more limitations for an arena like Towson's IMO than the Baltimore Arena.

I've said it's a decent concert venue. If the city and the people are OK with that then there's no issue at all. 

Just forget attracting anything above and beyond the occasional high-profile concert every once in a while, the circus and some preseason Caps/Wizards bone-throws.

I remember Chris was rooting against some college tourney holding it there and I thought what he was implying was a good point. As long as events are coming there, there's less of a reason for city officials to want to replace it.

On a development forum I visit someone was proposing a remodel of the arena. If they could get rid of the permanent stage and put in some collapsable seats, with an upper deck, and some more bathrooms, you'd get the seating capacity required of some other smaller arenas that do occasionally hold NCAA tournaments and other sporting events.

I think the city would be satisfied if the Wizards and Capitals played a game or two like the Bullets used to do -- but it would have to require some major improvements to the arena. But even a 1980 Honda needs an oil change and some new tires every once in a while, so maybe the city should actually invest in the arena to bring it into the 21st century if they're not going to build a new one.

Bullets used to play four a year while they were in Landover. I'm guessing the Wizards/Caps have it in their contract with DC that all home games must be played at Verizon Center. I could see the Wizards and Caps playing an occasional regular season game there once a new or heavily renovated arena opens, but most likely you're looking at exhibition games.

A remodel of the Baltimore Arena would be horrible imo. I would equate it to putting $10k into a '92 Civic that has been in a wreck.

Plus one of the other issues with that, is that there are still events which come to the Arena... and they didn't want to shut those down while a rehab was taking place.


My own comment aside here, let's keep the discussion of the Baltimore Arena (or a new Baltimore Arena) in that thread if possible, and just keep this to talk about the SECU Arena.
