Clevenger unable to come up with a 2 out hit tonight in the 7th in Toronto... but did have a double earlier in the game. (Actually 2 hits, and a walk.)

He's already show much more authority with the bat then many of the backups of recent years.

@TidesNotes With three hits tonight, Steve Clevenger is now batting .696 (16-23) with seven doubles and 13 RBI over his last five games.

So anyone figure out why he got sent down?

Hundley doesn't have options and Caleb is probably a better defensive catcher? He's the odd man out.

Seemed like the decision was 50/50 according to Buck. He mentioned wanting Cleavenger to play every day in AAA.

So far Joseph seems slightly better defensively but not as good with the bat.

I don't think they want to lose Hundley, So it's either Caleb or Clevenger. As long as Caleb is viable, he'll stay up here -- he's been throwing out runners better than any of the other catchers on this team (SSS and all).

Does anyone know why Joseph is still up here instead of Clevenger who is destroying AAA? Is throwing out two guys a week worth the .135 BA?

Would any of the advanced stats gurus know if there are numbers to support this, like Joseph has only created x amount of runs but saved y amount, which is a better ratio then Clevengers, despite his better hitting?

Catcher in particular is a really tricky position to apply defensive analytics too.  And even if it weren't, numbers from such a short period are pretty much meaningless.  They take a while to level out.  I'm certain the O's think Joseph is a much better defensive catcher than Clevenger, but I'm also certain that is based on their own scouts and minor league coaches and not the defensive metrics for either.

Caleb is much better defensively than Clev. Better framer, much better thrower. Must needs to not be a complete black hole offensively.

What I'm more surprised about is Caleb playing more than Hundley.

Agreed, I was pretty surprised that they sent down Clevenger. I figured Caleb was getting sent down for sure. I also thought they were acquiring Hundley to be the primary not to be more of an backup/insurance plan.

@RichDubroffCSN Duquette says he thinks changing catchers again would be a challenge. He likes transition Joseph and Hundley have made. #Orioles

I'm guessing he'll be optioned back on Sunday evening, but I was wrong the last time I said Caleb was going to be sent down.

Also someone who's come up and been a nice addition. Hit tool seems legit. Though he should get some love too.

Local guy, another player easy to root for and yeah he's made a difference since being called up.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
