This is the place to talk about the world's greatest food -- pizza.

This last weekend I was in NYC and ate at Don Antonio and Motorino, 2 highly rated pizza joints in Manhattan. I wanted to explore Brooklyn pizzerias but time restraints kept us in Manhattan. Both were very good Neopolitan style pizza places with Don Antonio winning out due to it's crunchy outside, soft and airy inside dough.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Never had a pie there. Need to try it sometime.

BOP Pizza was OK, somewhat of a letdown although BYOB is always awesome.

I enjoyed Joe Squared.

I am more of a Neopolitan kind of guy...I've heard some good things about Pizza Verde in Canton.

Outstanding idea for a thread. This weekend I was at Al's of Hampden in Enola, PA (mostly for beer - they are the home of Pizza Boy brewery) but I also ate some delicious pizza. The bacon cheeseburger pizza was spot-on.

In Baltimore, I prefer Iggie's. Great thin crust and the ingredients are always fresh. But it's definitely on the more expensive side.

I'm also a fan of Johnny Rad's. Eat at the bar so you don't have to wait for a table, then walk across the street for some BYOB duckpin bowling. Bring a 6er of Union Duckpin and you really can't get any more Baltimore.

Smoked duck pizza at Tooloulou on Harford road is the best pie I've had anywhere. And I live in New York.

Pizza John's and Squires are pretty much the two places my family will drive down from Bel Air just to eat at.

Plus, I'm getting not-completely-terrible at making my own.

Yeah I've been making my own pizza lately, including the dough.

A little time consuming and frustrating if you measure something wrong or the dough simply won't rise but well worth the work and I've gotten it down to a pretty good science.

The Weis up here by me also sells fresh pizza dough that is not bad so I pick that up if I haven't made dough a couple days before I am ready to have pizza.

Kinchley's Tavern in Ramsey, NJ.  About 45 minutes from Manhattan (minus traffic).  My favorite restaurant on Earth because, no surprise, they make the best pizza on Earth.

I almost went there a few weeks ago. I was spending time with family in Montvale, NJ and the plan was to go out for pizza; it was between Kinchley's and Martio's, they choose Martio's against the wished of one of my cousins. That place is really good, but I'll have to check out Kinchley's next time.

Anyway, Kelly and I also got pizza at John's of Bleecker Street, which is great.

I live 2 blocks from Tutti Gusti in Canton, so that's my go-to pizza place.  Nothing amazing, but they make their own dough which is solid.  It'll sound weird, but their pizza left over, and then reheated on a hot pizza stone, may be even better than when it's fresh.  The inside of the dough stays nice and chewy but the outside gets really crispy.  I can go either way, chewy or crunchy, on my crusts.  Really depends on what the toppings are going to be.

I like Matthew's as well, they do deep dish pies.  Their crab pie is excellent.

Haven't had Pizza Verde yet, but have heard it's good.  I'll agree with those that say both Joe Squared and Johnny Rad's are very good.  Especially if you're a fan of crispier crusts.  I like the more inventive topping combinations at Joe Squared, the corn and crab is awesome.  I've only had Hersh's once, I can't be fair to them, and it's certainly no fault of their own, but I can't eat in that location without being very upset that Rub is gone.  Rub was my favorite restaurant in the city.

I also make my own pizza, dough included, as well like Sean mentioned.  I like to grill them, but also do it on my pizza stone occasionally.  I don't make homemade sauce.  Don Pepino's in a can all the time!

That's hilarious, because I felt the exact same way, and I thought I was the only one.  I loved Rub, and for a couple of years refused to go to Hersh's because of that.  Did you know, though, that if you go to Miguel's Cocina y Cantina in Locust Point, they have some of the Rub BBQ menu items?  It's not quite the same, but it was enough where I could go to Hersh's.

Try some canned San Marzano tomatoes, diced or purée. Add some Salt, pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and bam, awesome pizza sauce.

In the city? I guess Lorenzo's. There's a joint up the street from me named San Marzano that has one pie in particular I like with crispy fried onions and some crazy ham I cannot recall the name of.

Bagby's name should be in this mix. Birroteca's the business as well.

Anyone try The Arthouse, the new pizza joint in Hampden yet?

Yeah, same owner. The same guy who used to own Blue Agave.  Like Miguel's a lot, thought Rub was so-so.

There's a place in perry hall called Dominicks(they have a few other locations). Pizza is really good.

Agree with Mike that crispy crust is huge.

Anyone know of some good pizza places in Montgomery County (preferably Up County)?... I've checked out all the Germantown places, and they're all meh.
