Picks 91 & 122... going to be a long wait for the O's Scouting Department until they make their initial selections.

Here was a list from Minor League Ball in February of 300 top prospects:

I don't see the Orioles doing much with their first ten selections. With a pool of $2.2 million it's hard to go overslot. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Orioles go after overslot guys in Rounds 11-50. If they can sign those guys for $100k then they can take advantage of the fact that they're spending so little this year on the draft.

Figure they need at least 30 players to fill out the minors or about 22 guys from 11-50? They should be able to go after 10 or 11 reaches and see what happens.

Orioles potential targets (ESPN Insider)

Draft strategy

Because of the late signings of Ubaldo Jimenez and Nelson Cruz, the Orioles lost their first- and second-round selections, which means they won't pick until late in the third round. They have shown a willingness to go after high-profile players with high-bonus demands, but with just over $2 million to spend, GM Dan Duquette and scouting director Gary Rajsich will have to be very creative if they're going to acquire quality and quantity in this year's class.

Possible fits

Jake Stinnett | RHP, Maryland: It's tough enough to say who is going to be available with the ninth pick -- much less the 90th pick -- but Stinnett should go somewhere in the first three rounds as a right-hander with a 92-94 fastball and an average slider and change.

Jeren Kendall | OF, Holmen (Wis.) HS: If Baltimore did try to take a risk with an over-slot type player, an outfielder like Kendall who has shown every tool but power would be a solid high-risk, high-reward gain for the system.

Said this the other day. I personally think hes gone in the supplemental, but if he made it to their pick I'd pull the trigger in a second.

So, for interest sake, if you were picking #1 overall this year who would you take?

That's pitcher from Vandy. Beede. Rich history there at Vanderbilt. David Price, Sonny Gray.....Ryan Flaherty....nevermind.

They always get so much talent, it's scary. The list of guys that signed instead of going to school would make your head spin.

I liked Beede a lot coming out of HS, but he's been kinda meh, for Vandy lately. I think the Rays have been in on him though, their system can fix anything wrong with him.

As a sidenote though, his numbers are really similar to an ACC pitcher I liked a couple years ago, something Harvey.

They probably have room for one seven figure guy if they manipulate their pool in the sixth to tenth round range, but that hasn't really been their MO in the past. I think Baltimore goes after one of the college arms that slips lower than he should, which is not a bad idea considering arms in particular are going to get squeezed down the draft.

Heard your name on "MLB Roundtrip" last night, was hoping you were going to be on.

How nasty was Burdi last night in the Louisville/Kentucky game?

He was good, but not his best. Had a weird delay to start his outing when the ump made him swap out his pitching sleeve after he already warmed up. Flashed one of the best change ups I've seen out of him, but fastball command was a bit behind where it normally is. At this point it's just making sure he's healthy. I'm sure his drafting org hopes Louisville is two and out next weekend.

What was the MLB Roundtrip about? Not my hair, right?

Your pompadour? You are the Mel Kiper of the MLB draft.
