If this makes any sense I didn't hate the way it the ended but rather how it ended. The Journey song and cutting off to black felt too gimmicky to me. It just didn't resonate with me and it felt forced. I wasn't upset that Tony didn't die or get sent to prison or whatever.
At any rate people shouldn't let the ending spoil what was a superb six seasons of entertainment.

The show was always entertaining, smart and funny even though it went through its ups and downs.
I loved how it ended.

He didn't die on screen at least, so I'll stick with that.
I've read at least some of the countless theories on the fate of our favorite crime boss. It makes my head hurt. Honestly I don't think David Chase knows either so I stopped really worrying about it.
Great show though.

Eight years after it aired, the finale of The Sopranos continues to be hotly debated. David Chase explains how he created the excruciating tension of the last scene. What he won't say is what happened at the end.

Interesting. Kinda sounds like Prometheus for The Sopranos, in that there will be some loose connections to the show, ie, characters showing up in the movie, but probably more minor ones. Tony Soprano was born in 1959 and would only be a kid during this movie, which is set during the 60's.EW: The Sopranos creator is making a prequel movie set in the '60s

So it's not exactly a direct prequel, which is probably for the best.

Directed several episodes of the show so it makes sense. i am still trying hard to pretend Terminator Genisys didn't happen though.

On the other hand, I love reading about the theories people came up with. The one that Tony at some point we don’t see has died, and the diner scene is him in hell, is an fascinating one, makes a little sense given the symbolism involved.
Wonder if people think it still holds up as the best show ever. Certainly groundbreaking. Changed what television would be for sure. I think all things considered it still is, maybe my recency bias.
Shows like The Office and The Wire are plagued by bad final seasons. GOT has an argument but for me there were long stretches of boredom and the end, sucked. Should have just cut to black.
Breaking Bad and this are probably the kings. Seinfeld as well, but that’s a whole different type of show all together. I didn’t like a few episodes here and there where seemingly they were filling time and not really moving the plot (The Kevin Finnerty episodes) but it didn’t have bad stretches or a bad season at all.
