He has been impressive.  I wanted to see them let him pitch the last inning last night.

Big kid. Throws hard. Wouldn't mind seeing him get a few starts at some point.

Coming back from TJ and missing 2019 + 2020 I doubt he does this year but I’m thinking he starts 2022 in AAA Norfolk’s rotation.

I kind of figured they'd give him a chance to start, given the other options. But I guess he hasn't pitched in games since 2018 so maybe they'll try that next year. As for closing, sure why not?

He needs to be able to pitch back to back games, which he has struggled to do.  He has been good though and his stuff fits the closer role, so maybe going forward.

I would like to see Wells be considered for the rotation.

I guess the time is now, if they are going to stretch him out and hope he can be a starter.  If it does not work, he can always be moved back to the pen.

MASN: Vision for using Tyler Wells getting clearer

This story has annoyed me.

Feels like the starter vibe isn't as much of a thing as Roch made it.  Starter doesn't really make any sense given the construct and needs of the rest of the roster.

A reliable multi-inning, late inning (6-7-8) option is a huge asset.

28 man roster may allow the Orioles to tandem start 3 rotation spots and get more work in, but they should be handing the ball to TWells in the 7th/8th.

The Orioles need more right handed starting options so Wells might be in the right place at the right time.

Balt Sun: Tyler Wells showed he can be successful as a starter. The Orioles showed their usage of him has its downsides.

I thought Wells pitched well last night.  His velocity is not going to be upper 90’s as a starter and he seems to be trying to bring more of his pitches into his arsenal.  I noticed the curve a few times last night and I am not sure we saw that last night.

My concern about TW is how many innings can he throw and will he hold up physically?  He is an interesting prospect though.

I was skeptical about him starting but the last two starts have been pretty encouraging.

5/2: 5ip, 4 hits, 1 er, 0 bb's, 4 k's

ERA down to 4.50.

I liked his willingness to go up and in. And he does a good job with pitch selection.

...so I agree.  My thought is still...so what.

What are we trying to accomplish by making him a starter?  Just prove he can start?  Develop him as trade bait? Are we really going to leave him in the rotation when guys like GRod and Hall get up and Means comes back. I doubt we're going with a 6 man rotation, so you are picking your 5 guys.

I'd rather see a multi-inning high leverage arm out of the pen that locks down games.

....but sure, good job the last couple times out.

Right now he (and Zimmermann) stay in your rotation until / if you have options to dislodge them.  Every effective start earns them additional looks.
