I will have some stuff written up later this spring about this summer's Euro's but found this interesting,

https://www.dailymai...MXgjPkR7BIG_lgE

To me their arguments fall on deaf ears. I think the reality is they don't want roster expansion because it allows countries with some guys who are quite questionable health wise to get selected. And England would just as soon not have to potentially face those guys.

The problem with Southgate's 'pitch" about too many players and hard to manage is garbage. Nothing says you HAVE to roster 25 is they do expand it. If you are happy with 23 and think its better for your side then fine just roster 23.

It's weird England and Germany would oppose that when they definitely have better depth than a lot of other countries in the competition. If I was a big national federation I'd be asking for like a 30-man roster.

There are pros and cons to having large rosters and I could write a novel on that. Suffice it to say that a manager can always choose to roster fewer players than the max allowed. I did this for a number of years. For my U17 and U18 teams I chose to only roster 16 players. Certainly there was some risk in not having the full 18 in the event of injuries. But the flipside is that with 16 everybody got plenty of playing time and we had our system fine tuned to those players and the roles they were expected to play.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Roberto Mancini does with Italy, he's easy to root for after what he accomplished with Man City

Also think this has to be the year Belgium breaks through, they've been good for several years and gotta be due at some point

For sure with Belgium. The problem is that winning any tournament is just really really hard. Look no further than the NFL. Unless you are a team with Tom Brady at QB that last time a team won the Super Bowl twice in a 5 year span was the NY Giants who won in 2007 and 2011.

Now the things on Belgiums side:  They do play in one of the less strong groups. If they win the group they will get a Round of 16 against a 3rd place team. If they take 2nd in the group then they will play the 2nd place team from Group A which should still be a winnable match.

But no matter how you slice it. Once you get to the knockout stage anything can happen. Shoot we have posters on here who tout that all the time about making the playoffs in baseball. Which has a multiple game series. This is a one and done thing.

But if I had to pick a winner today it would be tough to choose between Belgium, France, and England. All three have a legit shot.

Euros are kicked off with Italy dismantling Turkey 3-0. Even though their first goal was an own goal, Italy was never in doubt.

Soccer is a crazy sport. Denmark (one of the favorites) was playing Finland. This was Finland's FIRST every match in a major soccer tournament. EVER. So Denmark has 23 shots and gets a goose egg (they missed a penalty too). Finland gets one shot and in it goes and they win 1-0.

I was fishing today so didn't hear about that till I got home late afternoon. So glad they were prepared to deal with that. As Taylor Twellman pointed out on the evening wrap up. If they hadn't had medical personnel immediately available we might have had a different ending.

I’m Scottish so the 3 Lions

Many years ago our soccer organization hosted a summer clinic for the travel ball kids. The company we had come in wanted to use our goalkeeper as a "training tool" and keeper coach so lucky me. Turned out the three guys that ran our camp were all from Scotland. Very good coaches and the kids had a blast. The three Scots were in their early 20s and played some level of pro ball over there. Anyway the last night after the clinic I asked the three guys if they wanted to go have a beer. They wanted to go some place that had "American rock and roll music"  so I took them to a local club that had a really good traveling band playing that night.  Well let me tell you these guys were freaking chick magnets. As soon as they talked the bimbos were fawning all over them. Didn't hurt that they were obviously very athletic either. I think after the first round of drinks they never spent a dime all night. Dang near had a line near our table for the chicks to get a chance to talk/dance with "those hunky funny sounding boys"....What a hoot that was.
